I suppose I might as well re-share my #Twitter-to-#Fediverse journey seeing as others are celebrating their #Fediversary (mine's on November 8 back on mas.to)!
I used to be a prolific Tweeter, but Tuesday marked three months since I made my last Tweet on "#X"!
I started there in January 2020 to share my music, and spent hours trying to find the best ways to outsmart its algorithm and get my music heard. I met some amazing artists there who haven't switched to a Fediverse alternative yet! (1/2)
It's my one-year fediversary, and maybe yours, too. A lot of us joined around the same time last Fall.
So a shoutout to everyone still around and newbies now finding a community here: Hope that whatever you're doing today, tonight, right now, there's joy in it❣️
So, today is my #fediversary!
I joined on #Halloween, 2022, because it was less scary here than on #Twitter.
I have really enjoyed the interactions here, and appreciate my new friends and all the interesting people I've found.
To those of you who are building and contributing to open distributed social media, i just want to say thank you. I'm glad you are here.
I remember seeing the original "A new decentralized microblogging platform" on HackerNews back in October 2016. A few weeks later, I joined - becoming the 7,112th user. As the years went on, my use of it waxed and waned. I started cross-posting to both Mastodon and Twitter. Gradually, I started spending more time on the […]
Yesterday was my #Fediversary Totally ditched Twitter at the same time. No regrets. Different vibe here. Lots more Europeans. Lots more computer professionals. I do miss connecting with the Boston community activists and my defense lawyer folk. But not enough to convince me to help make money for and give oxygen to the fascist man-baby.
(“Which one?” you say. To which I reply, “You’re making my point!”)
Today marks my one year fediversary. I've written up some thoughts about what I've learned this year.
But in summary, I've found passionate communities and kind individuals that spark my interests in ways I never imagined. If you're seeing this, truly, thank you!
So, it's officially been (a bit over) a year since I came to the fedi. I don't miss Twitter at all. I miss some people there, of course. But I don't miss the "gotcha" culture, the near-constant mansplaining, all the tiny bits of nastiness that just wear on you, day by day. And of course, that was before it became all of what it is today. Thank you, friends for a great year. Looking forward to many more.
It's been one year on mastodon for me today. I enjoy it a lot more than I ever did on other social media. Thanks to all who make this place great!
A special thanks to all the developers and their amazing work. You make this place work! I love checking out all the apps and clients and love you're putting out and how easy it is to talk about this stuff. The quick responses and changes are awesome!
