Welp, today is my first #Fediversary! (Actually, I was here a bit sooner as I started out with an account on infosec.exchange when I first dipped my toe in the waters, but I really only became active when I joined mstdn.ca)
My time here has been amazing and truly life-altering. I’ve met some really interesting folks and learned a ton from all of you.
Most importantly I have a renewed hope that online spaces can thrive in the absence of corporate gatekeepers and walled gardens.
I must be somewhere around my 1 year anniversary on the #Fediverse with #Mastodon, which included a short stint testing out #Calckey, hosting my own instance as a #serveradmin, and migrating my account multipl times because being able to do that - even while leaving old posts behind - is cool.
It’s steadily gotten better and better here, while the interactions overall have always been better than the hellsite. That might change but since douchebags congregate like flies to shit, being able to block entire instances (or defederate if needed) is great.
Now if people would stop clinging to the hellsite with whatever excuses they’re using to delude themselves (excluding the POC who’ve experienced the shitty side of a mostly white Fediverse), we could continue trying to fulfill the promise the web had before aggregators & algorithms ruined practically everything.
Along with many others today, it's my #Mastodon birthday! 🎉
It's been delightful engaging with people who are usually open, frank, & talk with you in good faith.
It often exceeds the best early years of the Other Site, from which most of us are castaways. It's a comparison I make periodically, as that was my experience and I'm not a fan of the Halo Effect.
Am excited to see how Mastodon grows in technology and popularity. And due credit to @trumpet for managing this instance. 👍🏻 #fediversary
🇫🇷 Aujourd'hui marque ma PREMIÈRE ANNÉE sur Mastodon, et je tiens simplement à exprimer ma gratitude envers tous pour l'accueil chaleureux et pour avoir rendu cette communauté si captivante.🎉
🇬🇧 Today marks my ONE YEAR on Mastodon, and I simply want to express my gratitude to all for the warm welcome and for making this community so captivating.🎉
One year ago today I joined chaos.social and left Twitter for good. I want to thank everyone on the Fediverse who helped make this whole thing a pleasant experience.
I've had many nice interactions, I've met new people and I've learned a lot about the independent web during my time here. I hope this continues!
Happy #fediversary to all those #TwitterMigration folk who, like me, came over during the "Let's unban all the fascists and transphobes!" stage of Twitter's long descent.
Yes the discourse is better here, but also I feel like Mastodon has rewired my brain somewhat, to reject the "parasocial media" of influencers, pile-ons, dopamine seeking and clout, in favour of something more constructive and sociable.
Thanks to @Gargron, @trumpet, and all the other devs and mods for making this happen. 🙂
Just dawned on me that sometime in the last few weeks was my one year anniversary of joining #Mastodon, and it remains the best social media decision I've ever made. The Fediverse has been a wonderful refuge from hate and trolls, and I've connected with people here in a way that was never possible on Twitter/X. Congratulations to everyone else celebrating a year (or longer) here! #Fediversary
It’s my FediVersary! My MastoBirthday! My Birthtodon! I joined a year ago.
So glad to have a non-profit social media platform. And I really enjoy the community, and all the new folks I’ve connected with here, some even IRL!
In addition to all the diverse voices and perspectives that help me stay informed and empathetic, I get to hear really cool stories from people who were / are active in the music scenes and bands I post about.
I was wondering why so many people have this week as their #Fediversary so I looked into the timeline of the Musk takeover of Twitter, as this was clearly the main source of new #Mastodon sign ups.
Looks like Oct 30th was the date Elon took control of Twitter, and on Nov 4th fired most of the moderators.
:happyBirthday: 1 year (and 2 days) ago, androiddev.social was born.
A bunch of us had been talking about the need for a place to have Android community discussions if Twitter died. Our fearless leader @friendlymike blazed ahead, got the domain, & set up this instance. We all signed up, some of us donated to cover fees, & the rest is history :androidDance:
Mastodon isn’t perfect & we’re still growing, but I love this place & am glad to be here with y’all :blobUwu:
Wow. It's official. It has been a year since I discovered #Mastodon and the #fediverse. I still have a bit of that 1990s web feeling of pure, self directed, discovery. It is why this place is conpelling. I am also so grateful for having connected with such a great group of new friends.
This year I will convince more people to come here and stay and I will build places for people to do that. Plans are already in the works. I want my real life community in #PortAlberni and #VancouverIsland and #BC to discover this place. I want it to be the place for immediate news to appear on, for government orgs to post updates, for people to rely on.
The #OpenSocialWeb with #ActivityPub is the future of social interaction. Billionaires have had their time. It's our time now.
Today is my first #Fediversary (is that a word? I mean my #anniversary of joining the #Fediverse)
I've truly found a new social media home and love the fact that we're here exchanging thoughts, news and ideas beyond corporate control.
Despite missing certain communities, I've found new ones to engage with - so thanks to everyone on here!
Counting today as my #fediversary I created the account in April but started posting just here in November. I’m so glad I found this place; it’s much more chill; there’s more interaction and you have so much control over things. I love being able to follow hashtags and have conversations with strangers because of them. I like how you can filter out the things you're not interested in. I love how people boost and favourite posts and help them find their audience. Looking forward to another year.
According to my old instance profile it's been 1 year since I joined Mastodon. I didn't think much of it back then, since I was already deep into social media fatigue and was completely done with the birdsite's dynamic, but I'm glad I've found this online space which has gradually now become my main social media platform, and even more so to be finding myself posting on the regular again.
Oh! Happy 1st #fediversary to me!
It looks like it is my first #Fediversary today. A second will follow in a few days: the move to my definitive instance.
A lot of outstanding, overwhelming, hilarious, sad toots followed and continue to.
Who's also celebrating their fediversary today?
Thanks to all of you.
And now, let's shitpost again.
All right, I've just learned that it was my #Fediversary yesterday and I have a new paper out on arxiv today, so let's celebrate all that with an #astrodon 🧵 on magnetized accretion, and it's surprising connections with turbulence in ... pipes ! It's quite a ride in terms of research story
