Hello there! If you are on #Iceshrimp, #Firefish or #Sharkey, there's a new security patch out so your server admin should update the software immediately. #Catodon has also merged the patch from upstream #Iceshrimp and catodon.social has been updated :catodon:
Since migrating my old #Firefish account to atomicpoet.org, which is an Akkoma+Mangane server, this is the first post of mine to go viral.
With 13.5K followers with this account (@atomicpoet), it’s been an eye-opening experience!
You see, I’m running this entire server with 1 vCPU and 2GB of RAM. With certain Fediverse software, this wouldn’t be feasible. With Akkoma+Mangane, it definitely is!
Now that’s not to say there aren’t drawbacks. There’s been genuine hiccups today with my server going down a few times. But after these momentary hiccups, my server rises to the challenge, and it’s business as usual.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that, post-migration, engagement might be going up. I can’t say precisely why this is the case, but I suspect one factor is that my domain (atomicpoet.org) is pretty memorable and a nice form of self-verification.
Soeben das Upgrade auf #Firefish 20240326 eingespielt. Und in der Tat, diese Version hat jetzt Mastodon API, dh der Zugriff ist über ein App möglich (zB #Fedilab).
I just had Firefox ask if I wanted to open a #Matrix room (https://matrix.to/#/#firefish:matrix.fedibird.com) in #Beeper. First I have seen Firefox recognizing the Matrix protocol in the wild, I had just been reading the MCS about how they are dealing with protocol handlers last week
I have so many follow relationships with so many talented people here!
It's so great to see all of you and your interesting projects and creations across such a variety of hobbies and professions.
It's only going to get better with Threads federation under way! Future of Fedi will sure be interesting and I'm glad to be a part of something that could fundamentally change the way "Internet" is done as a whole.
The future awaits. After years of gaining steam, Fedi has arrived.
…I noticed that they gave shoutouts to #Mastodon & #WordPress (#Tumblr was strangely ignored) as well as credited #Misskey for their quote implementation (even #Firefish received an honorable mention).
I do wonder how many Threads users have activated ActivityPub on their account‽
I really like the extra features of #Firefish, but the lack of support for the #Mastodon API makes it really annoying, as there is no native client for Android — and they just have the advantage of remembering the read status.
Can anyone recommend good instances:
— Tech area, programming
— English + German
So it should be a Fediverse software that supports the Mastodon API without any problems.
When you're blocked, I'm pretty sure its considered an asshole move to try to circumvent that block by using alts.
So rather than come back in with your alt to spew a multi-post manifesto, take the hint and go away. You weren't blocked because I "didn't like the answers," you were blocked because I have zero interest in a "you're doing it wrong" tech bro diatribe offering ridiculous solutions to end users that few have the time or inclination to implement.
And in case it gets lost in translation: Go away. You are not welcome in my @.
I'm super happy I finally got my instance migrated over to software that's actually still maintained. I enjoyed using Firefish but the project imploding kinda made it hard to keep using it.
I'm grateful that the Sharkey project is continuing despite some dev team changes.
