Pedal-electric Hopper may be the German "car" you didn't know you wanted.
.
The rider's pedaling power is augmented by a 250-watt rear hub motor, taking the Hopper up to a top speed of 25 km/h (16 mph). The motor is powered by a removable 30-Ah/48V/1,440-Wh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, which is claimed to be good for a range of approximately 65 km (40 miles) per charge. An optional rooftop solar panel should help boost that figure.
.
In order to minimise maintenance and mechanical complexity, the Hopper utilises an electronic pedal-by-wire system instead of a traditional chain-drive drivetrain.
.
Such systems work by having the rider spin up a generator as they pedal. Doing so converts their mechanical energy into electrical energy, which is fed into the motor. That motor converts the electrical energy back into mechanical energy, which is used to turn the wheel.

You may think you're doing good by attacking Joe Biden and Democrats and you are, but sadly you're helping Putin and the other

Trump is promising oil execs that he'll roll back dozens of Biden’s environmental protections.

In exchange he wants them to raise $1 billion for him.

Trump told the executives that $1 billion would be nothing compared to the money they’d make if he wins.

Don't let the #FossilFools fool you too!

Useful idiots and Republicans in general will try to use Biden's pause for new LNG export terminal permitting as a political weapn against him this year.

Except because of #ClimateProgress the European Union’s demand for liquefied natural gas, which provided a key lifeline during the energy crisis, will likely peak this year as the region accelerates its renewables transition, according to the bloc’s energy regulator.

The biggest lobbying spenders in Frankfort last month were electric utility companies on opposing sides of a bill that would make it harder to transition away from coal-fired power plants in Kentucky.

A bill to add new restrictions on Kentucky electric utilities seeking to retire coal-fired power plants was supported by a collection of rural electric cooperatives, but opposed by two for-profit so-called public utility companies.

If you're wondering why there's such a vigorous opposition to EVs, it's because of all of the people that get rich off of selling oil.

Oil producers have seen demand for their products increase continually for decades and they don't want to lose that gravy train.

The best way to put them out of business is for everyone to transition away from fossil fuels as fast as they possibly can.

GreenFire,
@GreenFire@mstdn.social avatar

Kentucky's supermajority of Republicans in our legislature just overrode the governor's veto of their bill mandating that coal power plants to continue polluting.

All over the country we have local efforts funded by the doing everything they can to delay

We desperately need to make the transition away from fossil fuels a local issue in as many communities as we possibly can because when it comes right down to it all climate action is local.

As the try desperately to put the GOP back in charge of U.S. climate and energy policy there are going to be a lot of stories like these and worse ones that try to appeal to the left and portray him as anti-climate.

The best way to counter this argument is to point out that there is less fossil fuel extraction on federal lands, which he has some control over, but over 75% of our oil & gas in the USA is extracted from private lands that only the marketplace and states have a say.

@vicgrinberg In Portugal, many times this past year, we had effectively 0€/kWh energy (free-price energy) based-off wind turbines production. We're killing it in renewables—the average % of renewables in the grid sits in the 60-80% usually if not more 90-100% at certain times.

Many of the claims about EVs causing air pollution reference figures from Emissions Analytics, a private company said that its measurements show that particulate emissions can be 1,850 times more than those from modern car exhausts.

That headline that got shared so much by misses the fact that the tests have not been peer-reviewed by scientists, and the industry disputes the findings.

It's also quite possible that they are being paid in order to try to help slow down the transition.

After decades of seeing climate science denial continue relatively unabated, I don't have confidence that we can affect what these are intent on doing.

I think that our best approach towards reducing the damage they cause would be to spread twice as much positive news on the climate progress that's being made and the benefits from doing it. I certainly don't see how it could cause any harm trying a different approach. I know being cynical is more fun, but does it help?

Fossils in Arms: solar project slammed as white elephant, really a raging success

by Michael West

https://michaelwest.com.au/afr-slams-solar-project-fail/

On Tuesday this week, the Australian Financial Review went large with the story headlined, “How a big new solar farm became a stranded asset”. That evening, energy analyst Tim Buckley debunked the story on social media. This was not a stranded asset at all, Buckley pointed out. “Zero stranding … [financially] a brilliant success”.

What is not over, and the point of this republication, is the ‘culture war’ between new and old energy which is played out daily in the press and is frankly misleading for most Australians, and for many politicians whose votes they crave. People tend to believe what they see in the media.

For that reason, there is a generation of older Australians who read and watch the fossil media who are outraged about the demise of coal – this newfangled “not base-load power” solar boondoggle. “When the wind don’t blow and the sun don’t shine” blah blah. They are simply, relentlessly, misled by the financial press which is pro-fossil fuels. There is money in it for them.

This is also why you will see Tim Buckley, principal of Clean Energy Finance, and the leading coal and RE analyst in the country published in this journal from time to time, but so rarely ever in the AFR or The Australian. They won’t run him; he doesn’t suit the fossil agenda.

This is one of the most disgusting canards that the fossil fools gaslight with imo.

The more of this shit we see though means that our efforts to get more and more people to decarbonize are scaring them though so there's that.

A big talking point at and among other trying to block is that phasing out fossil fuels will hurt the poor.

Kenya is a poor country.

Kenya pays a fortune for it to import petroleum. It is looking to slash oil use for economic reasons as much or more than for environmental and climate reasons.

"Kenya is leading the way in electric motorcycle adoption in East Africa, starting with new government initiatives to replace the roughly 2 million diesel motorcycles."

Prediction, after this years has failed yet again to develop any 'concrete' plans to prevent the oil, gas & biofuel industries from expanding, how about we actually look at changing the management structure of COP?

Over recent days many peeps have tooted about this, https://theintercept.com/2023/10/29/william-nordhaus-climate-economics/, & just now i finally got around to reading it.

Hahaha, amazeballs. Never again shall i gently mock for their analogy propensity. They ain't got nuffin' on these idiot 🙄 🤦‍♀️

Possibly the part of the essay where i laughed loudest, was this;

Nordhaus has opined that agriculture is “the part of the economy that is sensitive to climate change,” but because it accounts for just 3 percent of national output, climate disruption of food production cannot produce a “very large effect on the U.S. economy.” It is unfortunate for his calculations that agriculture is the foundation on which the other 97 percent of GDP depends. Without food — strange that one needs to reiterate this — there is no economy, no society, no civilization.

When ELoon first started to openly flout his far-right ideology and racism, I somewhat suspected that he might be doing it because he knew that he would need for rural Americans to embrace his cybertruck or otherwise it would turn out to be a huge financial mistake.

I don't think he's succeeded in making the cybertruck popular with Republicans though since they're all brainwashed from decades of climate science denial, but we'll see I suppose.
