A new video is available that shows how #Clovis police officers murdered Isabel De La Torre. The Community Alliance newspaper in #Fresno obtained this video through a California Public Records Act Request.
De La Torre was having a medical emergency. When the police arrived she sought safety in the bathroom. She was unarmed. A police dog was used to bite and drag her out of the bathroom.
An officer put his knee to her back while another officer crossed her legs and put pressure on them. You can hear a woman police officer telling her to relax, breath deep and that “we are here to help you.”
According to the autopsy De La Torre died from asphyxiation and her death was declared a homicide. Find out how this tragedy unfolded by viewing the video taken by the officers involved.

Today in Writing History August 31, 1908: Armenian-American writer William Saroyan was born. He won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1940 and the Academy Award for best screenplay for his story, “The Human Comedy.” Saroyan was born in Fresno, California, but spent several of his early years in an orphanage in Oakland. He was later reunited with family in Fresno. Many of his early stories were about Armenian farm workers, during the Depression, in California’s San Joaquin Valley.
Today in Labor History August 20, 1909: The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) was engaged in a free-speech fight in Fresno, California, over the right to organize workers from street corners. Native American, Frank Little, led the fight, and the drive to organize local agricultural workers, including African Americans and immigrants from China and Latin America. Little, was lynched in 1917, during a labor struggle in Montana.

A church in #Fresno, #California whose congregation is half #LGBTQ, reports that $25K worth of damage was done to its building and a sticker for the "Central Valley Proud Boys" was left behind next to the damage. Proud Boys targeted the church recently for hosting a drag event.
