📗 Liverpool University Press published the latest book authored by Mário Machaqueiro: “Portuguese Colonialism and Islam. Mozambique and Guinea, 1930 –1974: From Repression to Religious Seduction”.
In it, the author focuses on the ways Portuguese colonial administration dealt with Muslim communities in #Mozambique and #GuineaBissau.

In Tanzania, Beijing is running a training school for #authoritarianism
"The school's programs present strong evidence that Beijing is exporting its model in a clear departure from its previous, more subtle attempts to peddle influence."
Climate change is an immediate threat to the majority of the world's population.
We need a local, regional, state, national, and international "moon shot" type of concentration of effort using available resources while developing and advancing new science and technologies to counteract the damage humans have caused.
Without this type of all-out, universal cooperation, human civilization, and perhaps humanity itself, are in imminent danger of extinction.
Even with #war and it's real and lingering threat of violence and death, the people of #Gorongosa#mountain in #Mozambique, with direct training and engagement from and by the #government, have preservered and are succeeding in #reforesting the mountain while also benefiting from new #CashCrops—particularly #coffee.
Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, literally, is our best hope of #ClimateChange mitigation.

In the song, Wazimbo expresses sadness at the lifestyle of a wonderful young lady, whom he refers to as "his sister - Maria", wasting her life having a different man every night. An excerpt from the song can be translated as: "You are a night bird, moving after dark from bar to bar." (wikipedia)
This is the Maputo-Katembe bridge in Mozambique, the longest suspension bridge on the African continent at 3 041 meters long, replacing the Matadi Bridge, completed in 1983 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, for this distinction. It's also longer than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco (2 737 meters long).
It connects the Mozambican capital Maputo, on the northern bank, with its disjunct suburb of Katembe on the southern bank. The Maputo-Katembe bridge has completely redefined the city skyline and is now an emblem of Maputo.
Before the bridge was built, travelling between Maputo and Katembe could be done by taking a 40-60min trip across the Maputo Bay on the limited and ageing ferry services available. The other option was to drive around the bay, a journey that took at least 3 hours due to the very poor condition of the roads. The bridge has significantly reduced travel time between Maputo and Katembe. 🌍
