Most studies found that face are beneficial against viral respiratory infections, such as -19

Mask efficacy depends on the material, layers, fitting on the face, and user compliance

respirators had maximum efficacy, especially when used continuously

and the brain

This is a very nice resource regarding studies on the effects of SARS-COV2 infections on the brain:

@Tatiana_Trifan Tatiana has linked to an appropriately terrifying summary of the ways and are causing damage on a global scale. Was pleased to see that Prof. @TRyanGregory is part of the World Health Network organization that runs the web site. (Follow him!)

This is all scientifically established fact, supported by hundreds of published studies. It’s why I keep the on when around people other than my wife, even while enjoying a bit of a lull in circulation.

N95s all around.
CO2 monitors everywhere.

I hate that it takes so much time to prove when something isn't "all in our heads".

"Was anyone else seeing what I was seeing? The researchers had not only shown that Long Covid might be preventable simply by taking a low-cost drug. They’d provided the best objective scientific proof that Long Covid measurably exists that I’d ever seen, or have seen since."

PSA to NYC peeps. Forest fire smoke contains PM2.5 particulate matter. PM2.5 particles are so small they can filter through your lungs and into your blood stream! Repeated exposures to forest fire smoke increases your risk of having a stroke or heart attack. WEAR A N95 MASK! Assume this will become the new normal every couple years.

Can’t believe “experts” are on the weather channel right now telling everyone to wear respirators outdoors while standing outdoors, NOT WEARING N95s, just holding them…

only works if you wear it! and stay indoors!

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Western Washington State, doing our best to stay free of . Mostly outdoor stuff, darting into a restaurant for takeout, using way more public toilets than we’d have liked. This after basically living like hermits for much of the past three years.

I wish I could say it was great to be around people again, but it wasn’t. I’m frustrated, tired, and so very disappointed with almost everyone.

This 🧵 is a bit of a rant for fellow people.

…do all those people really have no idea that they have essentially zero protection against infection, no matter how many boosters they’ve gotten? Or that the only reduce their odds of by about half? Does that make the remaining half somehow acceptable to them?

A few days of doing the thousand-yard stare past all those naked snouts looking at my was more than enough. Masked for every bathroom visit, the store, getting takeout, even trails.

PSA: I’m fully vaxed and bosted. I wear an #N95 mask when I go out in public.

The mask annoys my family.

Yet so far, I don’t have #COVID.

Even though, last week, my entire immediate family (3) got it!

So now the N95 stays on at home, even while I sleep in a separate, well-ventilated room.

And 6 days in, I STILL don’t have COVID.

I’m not bragging. I’m sad.

COVID is easy to catch. But it’s also pretty easy to NOT catch.

To stay safe, all you have to do is take it seriously.

Please?

I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who still wears a mask in busy / crowded / riskier places.

The other day, it was the train.

Today, it was the pharmacy - not a single person wearing a mask, even the person saying, rather loudly, that they think they've got covid.

Am I holding out for just too long?!

(Truth be told, I quite like wearing a mask in public. It's not something I want to give up.)

edsuom,
@edsuom@hachyderm.io avatar

@neil @dans I wear an not because I care about anyone in the naked snout parade but because I am determined to remain Covid-free as long as I possibly can. Preferably forever.

It has an exhalation valve. I don’t care about their health any more than they care about their own.

Everyone at home is sick with fevers & coughs except me today. It would be completely irresponsible & a dereliction of duty for me as a close contact for whatever it is my family are carrying to not reduce the potential exposure to my patients by 100 fold by wearing a fit-tested particulate filtering respirator whilst at work.
This is a permanent change to my practice & should be for all healthcare workers going forward.

My stays on, thank you very much.

Never infected and plan to keep it that way if at all possible.

This YouTube video does a fine job of explaining why. It’s by a doctor who sees patients, not some quack looking to sell reassurance or supplements.

Fit Testing to ensure a good seal on your mask [Part 1]

Prior to the pandemic our hospitals in Victoria Australia never fit-tested their staff for respirators.
Now we have fit testers employed full time at the Royal Children’s Hospital and staff that were fit tested at the beginning of the pandemic are being retested to ensure their face shape hasn’t changed, and that new Australian made models fit. 🧵(1/n)

Important question for all who !

My partner is tired of wearing bc they make her feel claustrophobic (sensory) & don’t always seal properly around the nose.

We’re looking for a new kind of for her that has a pretty universal fit (which I’ve been told is true of Auras; I love them for me).

Tried by Blox, but the wire is a bit harsh/tight on the bridge of her nose.

Thank you ☺️
