So... as I understand lawsuits, this lawsuit that Ron DeSantis lost for not releasing #Covid data over a 2yr period sets a precedent, yes?
Because um.. Biden and his current CDC director & all past directors since 2020, Dept of Health directors, etc. have been blatantly not releasing Covid data for quite some time now.
SARS/COViD not mentioned, but truth seeping out, nonetheless.
> Researchers analyzed 1,048 CT scans from individuals aged 50 to 64, all of whom were participants in the Swedish cardiopulmonary bioimage study, or SCAPIS. Analysis of the scans also considered data such as diet and physical activity, as well as examination of immune cells in participants’ blood.
> The results showed that those with fatty degeneration of the thymus, as shown by the CT scan, also had lower T-cell regeneration, an indicator of immune system aging.
“This association with T-cell regeneration is interesting. It indicates that what we see in CT scans is not only an image, it actually also reflects the functionality of the thymus,” explained Lena Jonasson, another of the study’s authors.
> They also found that other factors, such as age, sex, and lifestyle, affected the appearance of the thymus.
> “We saw a huge variation in thymus appearance. Six out of ten participants had complete fatty degeneration of [the] thymus, which was much more common in men than in women, and in people with abdominal obesity. Lifestyle also mattered. Low intake of fibres in particular was associated with fatty degeneration of [the] thymus,” said Sandstedt.
My wife's new dentist just called for a pre-appointment check-in to ask her if she's still being COVID cautious, if she'd like them to wear n-95s today, and to assure her that HEPA is used in each room. 😭
Apparently according to the WHO infection control should be based one ones values and preferences (I guess whether you prefer to infect your patient while wearing a more comfortable ineffective mask like a surgical aka medical masks or whether you prefer to not infect them by using a respirator mask better able to reduce airborne spread diseases).
🧵Last week my work held their annual conference for our members.
All of the staff at my work had to be there (including me).
Taking a RAT #Covid test before attending was requested but not required. There was no #MaskRequirement , and the masks on hand were plain surgical masks. To put it lightly, there were no planned #LayersOfProtection in place on a systemic level for this event that was being held during a #CovidSurge
I wore a #N95 with a #SipValve and never removed my mask indoors.
I took all of my meals outside.
I wore a new mask every day I was working.
I avoided close proximity to folks as much as possible.
I brought some extra KF94s in case I needed to change my mask for any reason. I ended up giving them out because people who were masking (though not as strict as me), wanted better masks.
What I am appreciating and #grateful for about #mastodon today is getting to know a few more #covid and #ventilation knowledgeable people who are trying their best to avoid Covid.
"Masks are not mandated in private medical clinics, offices, or practices but ... physicians are urged to follow ... (PHO) guidance and recommendations – including wearing a mask in patient-care areas as clinically indicated – to prevent infection and protect themselves, their patients, and their staff.
When declaring the global emergency is over, they did not say the #pandemic is over. They specifically warned that “the worst thing any country could do now is to use this news as a reason to let down its guard, to dismantle the systems it has built, or to send the message to its people that #COVID19 is nothing to worry about.”
"One-way masking, as these Boston hospitals suggest, is far from ideal. If you are in such a hospital, wear an N95. The risk varies with the type of activity, ventilation in the space, number of people, etc. Lisa Brosseau, Ph.D., CIDRAP consultant, estimated it would take about 1.25 hours of exposure for a person wearing a non-fit tested N95 to get infected from someone who is unmasked but contagious."
Some people consider the breathability of N95s to be a benefit, but considering that it manages to fog-up my glasses (the design was really not made with masks in mind and it shows, I'll get different ones next time) anyway (if to a much lesser degree than masks which don't seal on my face, but the top still breathes as much as the rest of it), I find proper reusable respirators do much better at completely doing away with the fogging-up issue.
The number of texts/calls I’ve gotten this past week from travel nurse agencies suggests it is going to be a brutal winter for health care infastructure. #covid#flu
Great wrap-up of the current state of all things COVID-related (vaccines, variants, wastewater levels, masks, masking in healthcare, etc.), from the People’s CDC.
Please consider signing this petition urging CDC Director Mandy Cohen to acknowledge and advocate for a multi-layered (Swiss cheese) approach to preventing COVID. Let her know that the current “You do you” and vaccine-only approaches don’t cut it.
😷 + 💉 = 🧀
Walking through several busy airport terminals yesterday filled with coughing and sneezing people, and every time I saw someone with an #N95 mask (maybe 1 in every 250 people) I thought to myself: wow, that is another smart and independent thinker! #covid#travel
Quick trip to Safeway. Ugh. Sat night. I pass a woman with an N95 mask. She says "It's just you and me". I said looks like it. And it was literally true. 😔
Down a different aisle we pass again & she says "I gotta ask you..."
On long 12hr+ days when I did asbestos abatement monitoring, I had to shave right before entering containment, and later during the early evening. Anything that cropped up made the gaskets on the respirators not stick to your skin as well, and you can feel that when you do your fitment checks.
I also worked alongside people who went in with nothing and smoked so 🤷
