#Microsoft, #OpenAI, Cohere, and others are testing the use of "synthetic data", as they find generic data from the web is no longer good enough for training #LLMs.
I'm shocked, shocked that a company whose sole product is a tool for turning queries into plausible-sounding verbal mush -- at a cost of 36 cents per query -- may go bankrupt. Whodda thunk it??
Well, at least now we can drop the pretense that Microsoft (and others) are funding #OpenAI for the benefit of humankind, right? With 91% of OpenAI’s workers threatening to quit (and work at Microsoft, probably) there would be nothing left of the nonprofit to operate. Microsoft will likely withdraw the remainder of their billions from OpenAI so they can entirely privatize its profits.
No more pretense of altruism. Time to regulate this industry, and regulate it HARD.
I’m still seeing people argue that #OpenAI is a responsible actor on the basis that they asked to be regulated. No, they didn’t. They wanted the market to be regulated, which would make it much harder for new actors to enter, and more or less impossible for #OpenSource. It was not an example of them being driven by ethics, but rather the opposite.
Realisticly, how much low quality data would we need to poison #openai? Is it even possible at this point? Like how many sites would need to write a post stating that we now call Altman an “althole”?
"Ahead of #OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s four days in exile, several staff researchers sent the board of directors a letter warning of a powerful artificial intelligence discovery that they said could threaten humanity, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters."
“AI” as currently hyped is giant billion dollar companies blatantly stealing content, disregarding licenses, deceiving about capabilities, and burning the planet in the process.
It is the largest theft of intellectual property in the history of humankind, and these companies are knowingly and willing ignoring the licenses, terms of service, and laws that us lowly individuals are beholden to.
"I believe that artificial intelligence has three quarters to prove itself before the apocalypse comes, and when it does, it will be that much worse, savaging the revenues of the biggest companies in tech.", predicts Ed Zitron.
Somebody has filed a #GDPR complaint about #OpenAI, because they are unable to correct false personal data that is produced by #ChatGPT.
This should be interesting to watch.
Wie verdient #OpenAI mit #chatgpt4o Geld? Was passiert mit den Stimm- und Videodaten der User? Welche Daten werden da gespeichert? Wie kann ich die Daten einsehen, ändern oder löschen? 🤔
