Finally watched #Oppenheimer. I tend to wait a long time for overhyped movies that win a lot of awards so as to get some distance between me and popular opinion. Especially for Chris Nolan movies. Suffice to say, I have never been a fan. The academy always has a soft spot for blacklist stories.
A key question at the heart of "Oppenheimer" is who decides how — or if — potentially catastrophic inventions are used. Writer KC Cole wrote a book about Frank Oppenheimer (brother of Robert) and spent a great deal of time with him in the last years of his life. "Frank remained anguished over what he felt was Robert’s squandered opportunity to engage the world’s people in candid conversations about how to protect themselves under the shadow of this new threat," Cole writes in this long read for @KnowableMag

Falls noch nicht getan; im Zweifel einfach noch mal ;)) Viel Spaß! 🔥#oppenheimer
"Oppenheimer" is nominated for 13 Oscars this year and Christopher Nolan is a frontrunner for Best Director. Here's @IndieWire ranking of his entire filmography, from his debut in 1998 to today. Which of his 12 movies is your favorite (this poll is in order of IndieWire's preference, with "Dunkirk" as the publication's top pick)?
Finally got around to watching #Oppenheimer and, of course, looked immediately to see what Hugh Gusterson had to say about it. My favorite anthropologist, national security scholar, and occasional movie critic.
Britische Filmpreise: "Oppenheimer" gewinnt sieben BAFTAs
Watching the BBC documentary on #einstein via #netflix. Transparently obvious that this was made because of #Oppenheimer, but at the same time it’s an interesting overview of Einstein’s life between exile from Germany and turning up in the US.
I also thought they were taking liberties with his voice until they showed a clip of the real Einstein speaking. Turns out not so much, though I kinda want to watch more of that now.
With the #Oppenheimer film landing on #AmazonPrime, I figured I would give it a chance, especially considering its film critic buzz and high rating. I should have known better. What a yawner! I gave up about a third of the way through. I guess some people must love these slow-moving, dull, melodramas, but it is certainly not my cup of tea. #movies#films#history#entertainment
I sometimes wonder how many people would have gone to see #Oppenheimer if the Barbenheimer phenomenon hadn’t been a thing.
A producer on Oppenheimer tried to get the #Barbie producers to change the opening date of Barbie. So the two openings wouldn’t clash.
I suspect, without any data to back it up, that a sizeable number of people who would have just watched Barbie also went to Oppenheimer due to the zeitgeist of Barbenheimer.
