Robert Oppenheimer: “When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it, and you argue about what to do about it only after you have had your technical success.”
In the film there's this shot of #Zurich where Oppenheimer is supposed to have met Heisenberg. The camera moves towards the University of Zurich (UZH) even though the Polytechnic University (now called ETH Zürich), where also Albert Einstein studied, and where I would have expected a talk by Werner Heisenberg to have taken place, is the building on the left.
Does anybody know if Heisenberg's talk took place at UZH instead of ETH?
🎬 Finally watched the Oppenheimer film, and I have to say, I'm a bit puzzled by all the hype. 🤔
Maybe I'm missing something, but it felt ultra pretentious to me. The visual effects seemed like they were just thrown in for drama rather than adding real depth to the story.
I'm still convinced that the Barbie film is far superior: a film that's meant to be funny but has a very important message all the same.
#Oppenheimer releases on Amazon on November 22 👀 Some people say it's too long and boring, some people say it's a masterpiece... I just really hope it doesn't disappoint me cuz I'm hyped! #christophernolan#movies#physics
Three months after its worldwide release, “Oppenheimer,” the film about the creator of the atomic bomb, has yet to be seen in the only country where the weapons were dropped: Japan. Here’s more from The Japan Times: https://flip.it/GxWVY7 #Culture#Japan#Oppenheimer
Saw #KillersOfTheFlowerMoon last night. After finally getting the book yesterday from library I made it about 1/3 through it before seeing movie. Facts align brilliantly between book and movie.
The plot itself had me worried though. As soon as the movie ended, checked last few pages to confirm that's how it went in the end, yep. (Helluva ending for movie btw. GO SEE IT.)
After finishing #TheLoomingTower book earlier this week, I decided to go further back in infamous US history to that day's historical synonym... #PearlHarbor.
Specifically, #AtDawnWeSlept, by Gordon Prange. It's retelling is nearly as detailed and sourced as Looming Tower was throughout the book.
Imho, it could easily be made into a movie as was Chrostopher Nolan's #Oppenheimer. It reads very similarly as it recounts events and thought processes to why/why not (more often the latter). 💯
🎙️ This year's Reith lectures, a series of four talks by Ben Ansell, Professor of Comparative Democratic Institutions at Nuffield College, will be recorded in London, Berlin, Sunderland and Atlanta.
More about this year's topic and about the history of the lectures which were first recorded in 1948.
The Reith Lectures archive is an extraordinary resource, with recordings and transcripts to download, going back all the way to the very first lectures, given by philosopher Bertrand Russell in 1948.
I thoroughly enjoyed the #Oppenheimer movie...Nolan did a respectable job of making this film. Human drama and scientific discovery go well together. Particularly due to the professionally written nature of that drama. He made it as accurate as one could based on the gleaned details from official documents. Only the two conversations with Albert Einstein were imagined but due to bringing a moment of history to life on the silver screen; A few embellishments can be easily forgiven.
I'm dressed and ready to walk to my local theater to see Oppenheimer. Per my custom, I seat myself early to create a cozy vibe around myself for a pleasant movie watching experience. This one is going to be a long film, 3 hours long exactly. I hope that I can sit still for that long. After, I'm making a snack run, so at least a nice walk will help me recover from sitting for so long.
@FAIR reviews the reviews of #Oppenheimer
"The film’s focus not just on a bloody decision made the better part of a century ago, but on the threat of annihilation facing humanity today, is made clear at its outset."

🥥 The author of this excellent editorial points out that if the actors' and writers' strike goes on much longer, we're headed for, "the least surprising #Oscar race in history (“#Barbie” versus “#Oppenheimer,” Round 2.)" 🥥
I just saw first 3 minutes of #Oppenheimer in Imax. Then they stopped the screening because of failed subtitles synchronisation. After an hour of trying to rewind the film they cancelled the show. #AnalogProblems#Imax#Prague
I went with my housemate. He couldn't really follow it. I already knew what to expect of a Christopher Nolan movie and I understand enough of the physics etc to thoroughly enjoy it. The soundscape also of course has been masterly done, as is signature Christopher Nolan, but also about that my housemate was ill prepared.
The plan is to have a viewing session some time at home where we can pause and explain and have subtitles in English or German. The movie theater of course showed the movie in English with Portuguese subs, which works great for me, not so much for my housemate. #ActuallyAutistic audio processing issues and generally sensitivity to the sensory experience of the movie might have complicated that a bit more.
