Are you thinking about switching from to ? 🔄 Then you might want to read the story of 'Was hab' ich?', a German NGO in the sector.

How did they migrate from Jira to OpenProject? And how well did the employees cope with this change?

"This is another variation of the High-Tech Illusion: the belief that software developers do easily automated work. Their principal work is human communication to organize the user's expressions of needs into formal procedure. That work will be necessary no matter how we change the life cycle."

— Tom DeMarco, Tim Lister, Dorset House: https://bookrastinating.com/book/35067, p. 34

This quote from a 37-year old book seemed a useful and apropos reminder in the current #chatGPT, #copilot hype-cycle.

How do i explain to someone that daily standups are for devs to just keep up to date with whats going on and where they need help

And not a ridged meeting for documenting work done yesturday, todays work and blockers, so the scrum master can report back to upermanagement so they can audit and micromanage the team.

its not that i hate scrum, its i hate people that dont understand it and try to follow the letter of the law vs the spirit.

To avoid heading down the all-too-easy road of burnout, @webchick has a suggestion: adopt the mindset of a project manager. PMs intuitively understand that saying "yes" to one thing means saying "no" to others, and you have to learn to "guard your "Yes"". Hey, has anyone checked out https://ora.pm ? Looks like but on steroids. Free plan which is always good. Desktop apps, mobile and web based. Instant syncing. Very pretty.

Edit: Aaaaand it doesn't have notifications when the mobile app isn't running. Fail. Especially for a TASK management app.

Edit2: Okay, my bad, my bad. It DOES have notifications, only configurable from the desktop app. Meat's back on the menu, boys.

As I suspected, we're stalled out (now one week delay, unclear how much longer) in our disaster remodeling because the contractor failed to order the carpet early enough. In chess, we would call them a one-move-ahead player (ie only able to look at the move they are on), versus a 3-4 move ahead player (anticipating possible issues/problems ahead of time).

Top Three Project Management Challenges:

  1. Over-allocated resources.
  2. Competing priorities.
  3. Over-allocated resources.
  4. Scope creep.

EDIT: 5. Undocumented requirements.

50% of the problems in project management are communication issues; the remaining 80% are estimation errors.

.5 hours

Email and messaging:
1 hour

Scrolling up and down in Teams trying to figure out which team you saw that one file in, you know, that one that was just open before the call:
