If you haven't read my book "CAMHS in Crisis" yet, it's available now!

This book looks at the failure of CAMHS to support Autistic young people. It uses parliamentary evidence, research, and personal experiences.

Just a quick reminder that my new book about CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) is out now!

It was briefly at number 1 in its category!

If you haven't seen it, please do check it out. If you've already got it, I would love to see some reviews!

It's probably a case of confirmation bias, but I had to impulse-buy this (comic) book on how the many ways in which the vision of space colonization makes no practical sense. After reading @pluralistic 's review:

should "case that ever aspect of space settlement" be "case that every aspect of space settlement"?

This is very good, as usual, by @pluralistic and his review for Kelly and Zach Weinersmith's "A City On Mars" weaves together some important conversations about space travel, AI, and more generally the domination of tech billionaires over our societies and the popular imagination. Well worth the read!:

In A City On Mars, biologist and cartoonist @ZachWeinersmith set out to investigate the governance challenges of the impending space settlements they were told were just over the horizon. Instead, they discovered that humans aren't going to be settling space for a very long time, and so they wrote a book about that instead:

We know there is a crisis in funding, we can see it across a range of services, but perhaps the most heartbreaking is the crisis in Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) support... that the unavailability of funding is nothing to do with over-stated need is reflected in the fact that when claims end up in court, around 96% are found to be legitimate, despite Councils often fighting the claim.

The wrecking of local Govt. harms the weak & vulnerable!

I had to remove the captcha from my newsletter to get it to work (aka, spam soon), support doesn't answer, and they haven't fixed accessibility issues I reported a year ago. I'm growing slowly annoyed. I might have to change my newsletter tool.
Any tool that is not too expensive for 2K+ subscribers?

Why does the private keyword not effect class methods? Feels like it should, but I suspect there's some kind of legacy reason why is shouldn't.

nilmethod,

@postmodern i mean when #send exists, is anything private?

“Revealed: covert deal to cut help for pupils in England with special needs. Government contract aims to reduce the number of specialist care plans by a fifth”

This is the same as what the do to the benefits system: pay private contractors to supposedly reduce need by victimising, gaslighting and ultimately denying vulnerable people the assistance to which they are entitled.

It is cruel, arbitrary, illegal and frankly, downright evil.

Why was the Search for Intelligence () 👽 unsuccessful so far ?

🦠 appeared pretty much as soon as it could, right when the formed and our stopped being a molten 🌋 hellscape. That might have been as early as 3.7 billion years ago. But life appeared basically yesterday—what we identify as anatomically modern humans arose about 120,000 years ago. https://arstechnica.com/space/2023/05/were-essentially-alone-in-the-universe-and-thats-ok
