UCHealth violating Colorado law by engaging a front company to sue their indigent patients. Since the debt serving company did not actually buy the debt from UCHealth, and doesn't own the debt, it has no standing to sue. But the poor folks being harassed by UCHealth don't know that.
And of course, they're suing people whose insurance has already paid, or who never got bills in the first place, and the front company has refused to supply itemized bills - which is also flouting federal law.
This is healthcare in the US, and it's disgusting.
This is great. It really is. Now for step 2 let’s have #MedicareForAll or some type of universal #SinglePayer FULL coverage so that #MedicalDebt no longer occurs.
Hey #Canadians I'm trying to figure out what healthcare is like there. Everywhere has problems but they're all a bit different. Here in the USA people don't want to go to the hospital and rack up a bill that will leave them homeless so they stay home and die of something preventable. One person on Reddit said in #Canada people die of cancer while waiting for the results of their biopsy - they can afford the care but it takes so long because everything is so backlogged they die anyway. How true is this? Wait times for specialists take a couple months where I am in the US and the ER wait times probably 4-12 hrs.
And yes, it's not uncommon for someone to #wait many months even for #treatments that are obviously #urgent. People #die of cancers and other conditions that may have been treatable if they had seen a specialist sooner, and got into treatment sooner.
Even when life's not at stake, the delays can impact lives. You need a new knee or shoulder so you can work and live again? In many places, you'll wait at least a year, and probably two.
I have bad news for you. Getting in to see a specialist - almost any specialist - frequently takes much, much longer than a month in most of Canada.
Outside the biggest centers, there is a shortage of virtually all specialties. Unless your G.P. refers you on an emergency basis, or you're in an E.R. and the doc there calls for one, a wait of 3-6 months is common enough, depending on the specialty.
Even if we have health insurance through our jobs, it still sucks. We end up paying 10-20% of our paycheck towards our share of the premium, and still have big deductibles and copays on top of that .

British people, I cannot explain adequately what absolute hell the American healthcare system is. You know how people say: "at least in the US, you can get fast treatment. At least in the US, you can choose your doctor. At least in the US, you can get the most innovative treatment"?
Lies. All of it.
The US healthcare system excels at one thing only, and that's bankrupting people.
usa healthcare is run by capitalistic for profit insurance companies, not the government. if you are a money losing insurance customer, the insurance company will make a silly excuse to deny your claim coverage and you're bankrupt or basically dead if can't pay for it. that's usa healthcare look like. money talks in usa healthcare.
#UShealthcare sucks. We need #singlepayer now. I just got a call from the local healthcare monopoly to let me know I am overdue for my follow up to a follow up of last year's annual mammogram. First one is fully covered by insurance, after that you're on your own. I told the person, yes I am overdue because the mammo and I biopsy I did in follow up to my annual cost me $1500, and nothing was found other than normal calcification. I'm not made of fucking money. I will live on this earth for as long as I can, but I refuse to bankrupt myself over this shit. I know this is dark, but it's not worth it if I can't enjoy my life after I spend everything I have to save it.
Health insurance is a scam all of it. I'm not asking some magic question to find out how much a procedure will be covered and that's the business model. #singlepayer is the only way out of this mess.
Cue rant: I hate the term, "single-payer" even more than #MedicareForAll
It's meaningless to most people because it's jargon. Really, it is. #Ingsoc absolutely approves it.
Informing people using clear, direct, jargon-free language is something the #Democrats, specifically, and much of the #left in general, have failed at my entire 65 years.
"#Government provided (or paid or both)" or something like that.
Medical students to the AMA: Drop your opposition to Medicare for All!
Students from across the U.S. are testifying in support of a resolution urging the American Medical Association to drop its decades-long opposition to #SinglePayer#MedicareForAll.
We have high hopes that the resolution will pass the Medical Student Section and will be working hard to make sure the AMA heeds the demands of its future members!
