When the Raspberry Pi 5 was announced, we all said that most people would probably be better off repurposing an x86 thin client so we bought some dirt cheap new in box Dell Wyse 5070 machines to see if we were right. Spoiler: we were.

https://linuxafterdark.net/linux-after-dark-episode-58/

kkarhan,

@LateNightLinux OFC you were - just like @heiseonline @ct_Magazin were when they bought some Thin client with a Celeron J4105 in it, to the point that these are nowadays completely jacked up in pricing on .de ...

Personally, I use some 's as and they run flawlessly with @ubuntu / 22.04 LTS ...

OFC they can also run @Raspberry_Pi , @bunsenlabs and even @tails_live just fine...

ea_dresden,

it comes off to me as pretentious when apps describe themselves with "beautiful" and "elegant" and stuff like that

I don't care how fancy it looks I wanna know what it does

kkarhan,

@roxy Personally I just use since that'll not require me to manually setup everything and I just flash it once and only drop ISOs into it to boot from.

Makes using @tails_live very convenient aside from preventing me from using the 2nd partition - or any other USB flashdrive when booting from "DVD" for it's persistent storage even if it's formatted for it.

@BrodieOnLinux @yisraeldov yeah.

The fact that @tails does "appointment-only" access to their prevents me from actually helping and improving .

Tho Gitlab is propably designed on purpose for that and was never meant to be used as solution...

finally forcing down our throat.

What does this mean for people using it under due to or concerns? 🙄

I believe they will still be able to use via SSH and HTTPS, but won't be able to do any admin task inside the portal.

The last nail in the coffin will be forcing the expiration of current personal tokens once 2FA is mandatory.

Is there any implementation of TOTP suitable for these folks?

What are your thoughts about this?

EDIT: (you may see exchange with @iampytest1 in the replies) - There are secure implementations of TOTP like , which even comes installed by default in , so Tor users can use 2FA safely with these.

" Hey kikobar!

We're reaching out to let you know that as announced last year, we will officially begin requiring users who contribute code on GitHub.com to have one or more forms of two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. You are receiving this notification because your account meets this criteria and will be required to enroll in 2FA by October 6th, 2023 at 00:00 (UTC). "

kkarhan,

Speaking of :

Can anyone from @kalilinux help the folks at @tails to reimplement this?

Not for me, but because is spreading and using , and @torproject is apparently seen as "suspicious"...

kkarhan, to random

A few major gripes I have with @tails is how not only that their is approval-only, preventing me from submitting issues, but that their documentation is incomplete at best some functionality is crippled intentionally and some weird decisions result in Catch 22 scenarios...

Which is sad because I do want to be good if not better than what I've to currently deploy instead of it.

kkarhan,

@tails For example, I do want to preconfigure some basics like @torproject and settings like "use Port 890 & 443 only" which allows me to do, but doesn't.

Or at least they don't allow me to just change a config file on the to do so.

Worse: I can't even do a single via without having a connection up and running, which is really bricking stuff.

kkarhan,

@tails @torproject Worse of all: The way I want to deploy is by shoving the latest on a that runs [https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html] and puts the on a seperate Partition on the .

This is done so that updating Tails is fast and painless and doesn't exert higher levels of wear and tear on flash memory as well as allow for flexible choice of media sizes.

Worse: refuses to mount from a secondary Drive instead.

kkarhan,

@tails @torproject

Mind you whilst I know how to manually install the into @ubuntu 22.04 LTS doesn't mean that's a practical option and not something one could discreetly teach someone over a wiretapped phone behind the of .

I really would love to improve even if it's just writing documentation and testing stuff, but sadly they've not replied to my request for an account for their :
