When the Raspberry Pi 5 was announced, we all said that most people would probably be better off repurposing an x86 thin client so we bought some dirt cheap new in box Dell Wyse 5070 machines to see if we were right. Spoiler: we were.
@LateNightLinux OFC you were - just like @heiseonline@ct_Magazin were when they bought some #Fujitsu#Futro Thin client with a Celeron J4105 in it, to the point that these are nowadays completely jacked up in pricing on #eBay.de ...
Am morgen des 8. November gab es eine #Hausdurchsuchung in Dresden. Laut Bullen geht es um Straftaten rund um den 1. Mai 2023 in #Gera. Auch in anderen Städten gibt es Durchsuchungen in dem Kontext, sicher in #Leipzig, #Jena und #Schwarzenberg. Wie können wir damit umgehen? Was bedeutet das
@roxy Personally I just use #Ventoy since that'll not require me to manually setup everything and I just flash it once and only drop ISOs into it to boot from.
Makes using @tails_live very convenient aside from #Tails preventing me from using the 2nd partition - or any other USB flashdrive when booting from "DVD" for it's persistent storage even if it's formatted for it.
hey do any of you know how to use facebook/messenger on desktop without being tracked through hell and back? i have a friend whom i can only contact through these means and i dont want to ask my mom for her phone whenever i wanna talk to him.
@bluGill@RL_Dane you can always put #tails on a USB and have a fully functional laptop 😁 - yes, that is taking it a little far but I do enjoy using it at times.
What does this mean for people using it under #Tor due to #privacy or #security concerns? 🙄
I believe they will still be able to use #Git via SSH and HTTPS, but won't be able to do any admin task inside the portal.
The last nail in the coffin will be forcing the expiration of current personal tokens once 2FA is mandatory.
Is there any #OpenSource implementation of TOTP suitable for these folks?
What are your thoughts about this?
EDIT: (you may see exchange with @iampytest1 in the replies) - There are secure implementations of TOTP like #KeepassXC, which even comes installed by default in #TAILS, so Tor users can use 2FA safely with these.
" Hey kikobar!
We're reaching out to let you know that as announced last year, we will officially begin requiring users who contribute code on GitHub.com to have one or more forms of two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. You are receiving this notification because your account meets this criteria and will be required to enroll in 2FA by October 6th, 2023 at 00:00 (UTC). "
We're in the final stages of the Online Safety Bill and, honestly, I'm not optimistic. This is just the next attempt, and probably the successful one, at breaking end-to-end #encryption in the #UK. I admire the stances of @signalapp and the like, but the ones who are going to be most negatively affected by this are those who aren't as technically proficient. And that's the problem. Truly #privacy-preserving technologies should be accessible to everyone. #tech#surveillance
I know about #tails when it comes to computers and #linux.
But is there something alike for #android?
Intuitively, an #USB bootable distro that disable the #GSM based parts and only works on WiFi via #tor while spoofing #mac addresses and comes with a curated list of #apps?
If no, any alternative for time framed anonymity on a mobile device?
@tails For example, I do want to preconfigure some basics like @torproject#Bridges and settings like "use Port 890 & 443 only" which #TorBrowser allows me to do, but #Tails doesn't.
Or at least they don't allow me to just change a config file on the #PersistentStorage to do so.
Worse: I can't even do a single #ClockSync via #NTP without having a #Tor connection up and running, which is really bricking stuff.
This is done so that updating Tails is fast and painless and doesn't exert higher levels of wear and tear on flash memory as well as allow for flexible choice of media sizes.
Mind you whilst I know how to manually install the #TorExpertBundle into @ubuntu 22.04 LTS doesn't mean that's a practical option and not something one could discreetly teach someone over a wiretapped phone behind the #IronFirewall of #Putin.
I really would love to improve #Tails even if it's just writing documentation and testing stuff, but sadly they've not replied to my request for an account for their #Gitlab:
