Why would the nationalisation of Thames Water end up putting its debt on the public books? If a company goes bust, and the govt buys the remains, surely the investors simply lose their investment and the debt falls to zero?

They want water companies to operate as profit makers, so they should accept when they go bust too.

I know the Brits aren't very enthused by the idea of #nationalservice, but as an American I've always admired countries with the maturity and wherewithal to implement it. We couldn't even dip our toes into universal health care (ACA) without sparking a national anti-government rebellion.

The problem with the Green Party is that they're either lying about how green they are, or they are a death cult. To get reliable power without burning dinosaurs and without an unprecedentedly fast and large roll-out of tidal power requires nukes. As they are against nukes, they must want a huge drop in living standards, and the associated deaths. Sorry, I can't find anything to joke about with the Greens.

I would like to meet the person who advised Sunak that National Service would be a policy to win an election.
Quite apart from being a bad idea on many levels, I'm amazed at its stupidity as an election policy.

It's hard to get disengaged young people to vote, so well done to the for giving every 18 year old an incentive.

Maybe we should have National Service for older voters too? Those approaching, or just past, retirement age. I wonder if that group of voters would eagerly support “compulsory volunteering” if it involved them too?

National service? Really?
No I'm not going to laugh. I have kids and would much rather they not get murdered for your arms companies chums and donors thank you.

Another thought, on claiming some mystical flood of seats North of the border. Say that when it happens. We remember who did a better job of handling Covid, and if you had been in charge we'd have had the same death rate with London party telling "Scottish" branch what to do.

"For supposedly one of the biggest losers in Labour’s history, Jeremy Corbyn has certainly won a lot of elections. Two leadership contests by huge margins, and 10 consecutive victories in his parliamentary constituency, Islington North...
So his announcement that he is running as an independent in the general election, a plan that he has hinted at for months, has a degree of confidence behind it."
