For #WorldBicycleDay, I’ll post this picture in answer to one of the most frequent questions I get about biking: “But how do you get groceries?” My #CargoBike is large but can hold five full grocery bags up front with no problem, and two more on the back rack if needed. You can do it! It’s easy if you try. #BikeTooter
@marcprecipice#WorldBicycleDay doesn’t even need to be that much bike: this 3gal tote mounted on an acoustic bike rear rack holds a single completely full grocery bag, I use it for most of our shopping, making more frequent, smaller, and faster individual trips than I would in a car
@marcprecipice#WorldBicycleDay …and here’s the two-bag version, same general deal. Up front is the Wald multi-fit rack ($71) that can pop off and come into the store as a shopping basket. If you’re within a couple miles of a store (I have five to choose from) shopping can be a half-hour task including travel time there and back. It’s a different habit from car shopping and freedom from parking is such a great advantage.
On this #WorldBicycleDay I only cycled 8km and I'm not planning to go for an extra ride because I feel tired. Then again, that 4+4 km commute is exactly the kind of ride everyone could easily do, and if they did, single-occupant cars on the streets would plummet.
"The [2018 United Nations General Assembly] resolution for World Bicycle Day recognizes "the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport.""
Reluctantly awake. Lots of rain overnight, I was awake for some time and heard it drumming against the window. I finally fell back asleep, my right hand was on top of Ginza and the left was under the blankets underneath her. I could feel her softly purring.
But somehow I got up when the alarm woke me. I've eaten breakfast and fed Ginza hers. She's now snoozing on the upper perch in her cat tree and looks adorable as always.
Oh it's World Bicycle Day. I really should try to take a ride today if it's not pissing down rain.
Last month I began riding a bicycle, the first time I had ridden on one in more than 15 years and I've never done much bicycle riding, even when I was a kid. But it's really helping me now as I try to recover fitness that I lost during a period of worsening fatigue that became chronic.
Even before last month I knew we need less cars, more bikes. I'm even more convinced now. #WorldBicycleDay
#WorldBicycleDay
For #WorldBicycleDay I’m going to mention my favorite safety accessory. My bell has a rich mellow tone. It started it’s journey as a bright brass Crane Bell from Japan. I softened it with heat until it had a soft red glow. Then I hammered it to get a the beautiful rough finish. Doing this long enough that the brass hardened back up until it had the sound I wanted. I used earl gray to give it a pink color and then dish soap for the brown. I ring it sometimes as I ride just for my own amusement.
Just rode an #ebike for the first time. I’ve been intrigued for a while, but figured I would stick with human power for as long as my legs could turn unassisted.
This ride was so much fun and gave me a completely different experience of urban mobility. Only traveled a few miles—from Capitol Hill to Dupont Circle—but it was like being a kid again. Best two-wheeled experience in ages. Face hurts from smiling.
On this #WorldBicycleDay, I am pleased to announce that my long-lost and most-favorite jersey was discovered wrapped inside some sheets in a drawer. #BikeTooter

Bei Abfertigungen auf kurzer Strecke und Grenzkontrollen nutzen auch wir seit 2019 gerne mal das #Fahrrad. Wo geht eure nächste Radtour hin?
