Us, continuing to go down the path of centralization round a brand (#mastodon) is a disaster for the #Fediverse and the danger of the irrelevance of Mastodon itself as it then has no clear advantage over #dotcons masked #bluesky and #Nostr - who can play the tech is better card.

@mastodonmigration the first thing to do when you write something that might put somebody in a bad light is to be well informed.
This topic has already been discussed on #Bluesky, the intent was that they could show promotional images, like in the App Store, without getting into problems.
The CEO of Bluesky, Jay, responded and welcomed further input to revise portions of the text.
It’s okay to be sharp on things, but make sure you do it with a honest intentions. And make sure to reach out.
"Q: Okay, so Musk and Dorsey are collaborators in some weird Mars cult, and don’t actually care about making money from Twitter?
A: Yeah, you’re getting it. Musk also seems pretty interested in helping advance Putin’s “multipolar world order,” which is why he plays footsie with QAnon and MAGA accounts, and pals around with Putin and Dmitry Medvedev. “How are things going in Bakhmut?,” Musk asked Medvedev." #BlueSky
There seems to be a growing amount of uninformed, negative posts on #Mastodon about #Bluesky.
It’s unfortunate that a platform which believes is populated by open minded people do not gather information themselves to form a balanced opinion, but rather jump on the “echo chamber” bandwagon instead.
Kind of reminds me of behavioral patterns on #Twitter. Remember it’s not the platform, but what you bring with you that matters.
@alastor8472 Sure, there are a lot of concerns about minor issues with an app in its beta phase that are being overblown. That always happens with new products, #ActivityPub clients included. A lot of those minor issues will surely be resolved and don't maybe deserve too much attention.
But there is also a growing amount of informed, realistic posts about fundamental issues with #BlueSky and the #ATProtocol. Issues that will likely not be resolved as they are intentional design choices baked in.
I'm sorry I'm posting so much about this, but I've been trying the last hour or so to understand #BlueSky — we should be critical of social media platforms (here included!) given how much of a negative impact they have when implemented and/or managed poorly.
The vast majority (from scrolling though the "What's hot") of posts seem to be either self-congratulation or Tech Bro crap from accounts who have moved directly over from Twitter. The only mentions of the fediverse are how it's "tanking", or difficult to use, or "toxic".
Of the accounts appearing in the "What's hot" section, they seem to be primarily white cis men — read into that however you want, but for me the significant lack of queer community there is troubling, and suggests selective invitation.
#Bluesky seems interesting but the number of bots this early into development is really concerning. Shouldn’t the invite-only signup process be doing more to curb this?
If Bluesky was a benevolent initiative they would have spent some small part of their many millions over the past 3 years engaging in meaningful dialogue with the world's foremost decentralised social network: the fediverse. They didn't do that.
They did try to poach some key figures from fedi's tech pool though, no doubt offering salaries well above what most here earn.
#Bluesky must've really taken off this weekend, because I've never seen so many posts about it here before.
I think we should wait and see how it turns out. It doesn't even have federation yet, so I can't really encourage it, but if the "mastodon.social promotion in the #Mastodon mobile app" thing is any indicator, we need another serious player in the federated microblogging space. Competition is good, actually, remember? 😄
I think #Mastodon has an enormous head start both in terms of features and community but it’s hard to deny that #BlueSky has done something better to attract larger profiles than we have here. BlueSky isn’t even publicly available and I’m already seeing more major/minor celebrities and public figures posting over there. Given the features that it’s lacking right now, you have to wonder if the lack of server choice (for now) really does simplify onboarding that much.
It's quite sad watching the despite pleas of people asking for #bluesky invites and claiming FOMO. Fuck sake people it's an app, go outside and get some sun.
People talking about BlueSky so much. How many instances are there? Can I run my own self hosted instance? How is it federated if people need “invites” to join? Sounds very much like a trap. #BlueSky
Joined #Bluesky a couple days ago and, so far, I’m enjoying it more than #Mastodon. It feels like it scratches the same “itch” that Twitter did, which I wasn’t expecting since I don’t know many folks there.
