I need your favorite Regency romances. I prefer FEELS but not a lot of smut.

Does not have to be historically accurate. "Regency themed" is okay.

Love Regency Fantasy too.

THE GRAMMAR DAILY is an update to THE GRAMMAR DEVOTIONAL, which came out in 2009.

Part of the work was updating cultural references, and a funny thing was that in 2009, I used "Bennifer" as an example of a portmanteau for the hot couple at the time: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. Well, after years apart, they're now back together and a hot couple again. I could have left them in!

Whoever suggested I read DEADLY EDUCATION by Naomi Novik...

I love you.

That book was breathtaking. I'm torn between an immediate reread, or moving onto book two.

I have never heard about these books until recently but over the last few days a lot of people I have been talking about them and I guess the movie The Black Cauldron was based on them.

I'm in such a reading rut.

Nothing new or old is just right.

I really want a cute romance (preferably Regency, Victorian or general historical fiction).

I don't want smexi scenes. I don't want characters fueled by hormones. I WANT ROMANCE, not lust.

Gimme that brush of a hand. That witty banter. The emotional connection.

Why is this so difficult?

Read some Mimi Matthews lately, that was lovely. More of that.

In preparation for a holiday season that is probably going to be pretty lonely and sad...

I am looking for the book equivalents of Hallmark Christmas movies.

(this is not an invitation to discuss the ills of Hallmark movies, do that on your own TL).

Want it light, fluffy, heartwarming. Bonus if it's Hanukah themed instead of Christmas, but I'm okay with any winter seasonal holiday!

This week, I learned all about audiobook narration from David H. Lawrence, a professional actor and audiobook narrator who helps authors narrate their own books.

If you've ever dreamed of being a narrator — or wondered what it's like — this episode is for you!

Dear Modern Authors:

For the love of FUCK please tell me an entire story in a single book. Stop with this ending everything unfinished and unraveled, and on a cliffhanger, with no resolution or satisfaction.

Edging is fun in the bedroom, not in book series.

Tell me a goddamn story. A whole story. Start, middle AND FUCKING ENDING.

Write a good story and I'll read your second book. You don't have to trick me.

I pre-ordered Brian Klaas’ (@brianklaas) newest book and received it yesterday - started reading it 30 minutes ago and can’t put it down.

Fascinating, beautifully written, and intriguing as hell. (All other plans for today cancelled. Going back to reading now.)

Treat yourself. You’re welcome. 😊

I’m currently reading , Or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley. I’m having a bit of a rough time, because, to be as polite as I can, her style is a reflection of her era.

I’m doing this because I want to catch up on all the reading that I was supposed to do in high school. (Apologies to Mr. D, Mr. F, Mr. S, and Ms. G.)

One of the nice things is that nearly all of the material is freely available on Project Gutenberg, and that means I can read them on my .

Migrating Goodreads to StoryGraph is good from the perspective of being in a supported community. I haven’t found people there yet: I’m iamleeg.

My focus for reading this coming year (other than finishing my PhD) is fantasy. I know so little about the genre that I don’t know where to start. Also, carrying on with SF.

I finished Olivia Atwater’s The Witchwood Knot this evening and it was just very delightful to be back within her magical human faerie world again. I’m pleased there will be more books in this series.

I’ve been enjoying a lot of faerie / fae / fair folk books lately - another one was heather fawcett’s emily wilde's encyclopaedia of faeries.

I wonder if anyone has any other recommendations in that zone @bookstodon

I finished Cursed Cocktails by S.L. Rowland last night and it was a nice mostly low-stress akin to the style of Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree.

The style of the warrior finding community after war/adventure, set in a magical land of elves and humans and dwarves.

Not in a bad way - it's still a fresh angle, you've got a blood mage, and monsters, and friends and conviviality. @bookstadon

Here's a tip for authors who do interviews:

The last two people I interviewed had a large poster-like image of their book in background where they record.

It makes the art easier to see and feels like a step above having just your book or a stack of books. I like it!

They say that the music you loved at 14 years of age shapes your musical tastes for life. Those are the songs that evoke the memories you can slide into the easiest.

I feel the same things applies to books.

At 13 I had a ravenous appetite for books that took me outside of the ridiculousness of early teen emotions and situations; and catapulted me into what I considered maturity - lust, vileness, tortured souls, darkness and disparity.

Finally getting back to writing Book 5 of The Silk Rope Masters. It's slowly coming together - all those green lines mean I'm happy with the chapter for the time being.
I had hoped it would have been completed by now but Cancer stuffed up my progress. I'm still trying to get used to the many side effects from radiation and drug therapy.
