@chikorita157 and I are accepting #moderators to moderate Sakurajima Social for the long term. Some of our community members may recall that I was originally here as a Quality Assurance (QA) Technician, but I decided to help out with moderating on this instance's open beta after the first wave of Mastodon Social #spam#bots. I'm afraid that my job here is only temporary, and as a college student, I will be starting summer classes on June 5th, meaning that I won't be able to do much moderation during that time.
If you would like to be a moderator at Sakurajima Social, please DM @chikorita157; you will need to meet the following requirements:
You must have been on the #fediverse for at least one calendar month (you can calculate the earliest date you can apply today here; be sure to press Today before you press Calculate New Date).
Although not a requirement, it is recommended that you have experience being a moderator, you and @chikorita157 are mutual followers, and you have experience with #Calckey / #Misskey / #Foundkey (we accept mods who do not have experience on these platforms, but it will be harder to learn how to use it, especially with some of the features being potentially. overwhelming).
We would greatly appreciate some #boosts for this message to get out there and for new recruits to see this.
Just because it's the weekend or evening, #mods cannot stop looking at the TLs and looking out for reports every now and then unless they have been relieved of their duties. Just a heads up: the content below is not me gloating; the content below is my experience with the #spam#bots and how it relates to this tip.
On this alt, I remember seeing a DM from the Doge AI crypto spammers, and it was relatively late in the evening; I sounded the alarm, and Sakurajima was able to lock down shortly after. If I wasn't online that evening, I would have missed the DM, meaning I wouldn't have sounded the alarm, and @chikorita157 and the rest of our team wouldn't have been able to respond as quickly as they did. That is why it is important to have at least one mod/admin periodically check the control panel.
Thank you all for your time; I hope I gave everyone a valuable #feditip.
I believe it is time to ban advertising. Now, I realize that much of the internet depends on advertising for its revenue, but that is offset by the fact that I don't give a fuck
@ReticentTurnip personally, I want more agressive #Adblocker that'll literally filter all #ads on sight to be come the norm so that #advertising - espechally online - can only work to attract stupid SEO-oriented #bots.
I was targeted by cryptocurrency #spam#bots on social media first time... I celebrated it by blocking them and reporting to their instance admin :blobcatjoy:
 😬 I see "bot" is trending on here. It´s not that I´m against anything bot accounts in general, I have indeed a list of some I actually like. But I noticed a downright glut of bot accounts on Mastodon only recently and find it very annoying. Who needs, or wants an hourly post of this & that, or even every 15 minutes? I also noticed that there are apparently bot-only domains connected to Mastodon.
I set up several filters in the settings, and when those bots really got out of hand I started to block entire domains. Unfortunately, both options don´t seem to work. Bots and posts from blocked domains still show up.
@MariaTheMartian If only filters and blocking domains would work properly on Mastodon, sighs.
I wondered if the recent significant increase in bot accounts is related to the likewise increase of "users" on Mastodon? I read rumours about Eugen Rochko is after all willing to sell Mastodon and WordPress is considered a hot contender. But if you think that through, that´s quite a wilful thought ... I actually believe in the good in man. But I also believe in the power of money. #Calckey#bots, #Mastodon
When the MTA announced discontinuing their live subway alerts due to Twitter's new excessive pricing policy, I took it as an opportunity to set up @mtaupdates.
