Happy British Colonizer Day, Canada.

Dear my fellow Canadians,
Take this holiday to spend with family and enjoy the end of spring and coming summer. Also, spare a thought for the people subjected to the peak of the “brutal” expansion of the British Empire at the end of the 19th Century including the beginning of the Indian Residential School system and the hanging of Louis Riel all done in Queen Victoria’s name in the new Dominion of Canada.

So it’s up to and to lead the world from its destructive reliance on fossil fuels? Meanwhile, our governments in fork over our tax dollars in corporate welfare to prop up the -destroying tar sands. Kudos to (unlike the rest of Canada) for being the exception here by joining the Alliance working to save us all.

I came across this petition.

It is calling upon the House of Commons to extend to and people - the right to claim asylum in by reason of eliminationist laws in their home countries, whatever country that may be.

Amazing fact almost 160,000 people have signed so far.

Only 16,000 shy of being the 2nd most signed petition...EVER!

Closes May 26.

Can someone from mstdn.ca please boost?

We shall continue watering our , even in apocalypse level smoke 🌱

Where I live in , the air quality is literally off the charts currently due to immense wildfires. The sky looks like pea soup, we cannot see the sun, and you can chew the air. We spend most of our time indoors and hope this passes soon.

Is this the world's most grueling race? In the Yukon 1000, canoeists, kayakers and paddle-boarders attempt to navigate 1,000 miles of the Yukon River, starting at Whitehorse in Canada, and ending close to the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Here's a look at the challenges they face, from river rapids to rummaging bears.

Some good news from the Supreme Court of : A B.C. school trustee had sued a teacher for defamation after the teacher called him bigoted and transphobic in the media. The sided with the teacher because the public interest in protecting his speech outweighed the public interest in remedying the reputational harm to the trustee.
