Thank you for all the great replies and responses to this poll! It somehwat confirmed my belief that Signal is the goto for most for secure, end to end encrypted chat (which I have used on occasion). But I also learned about other options I had never known about before including many decentralized options. Check out the replies to my poll to see them.

"Removing the word 'privately' from the [Online Safety Bill] could preserve the security and privacy of billions of messaging app users”

We spelled it out to the government in this week’s open letter from 80 experts and groups.

Privacy is online safety.

The weak link in the global security system.

This is the UK's fate if the Online Safety Bill brings in powers to scan private messages.

Such a destructive step for the security of billions of users can't be justified. The government must listen.

🚨 The latest in UK government wishful thinking has dropped.

Suella Braverman (Home Secretary) takes to The Telegraph with claims about encryption that don't stack up.

There's a failure to grasp how the Online Safety Bill will harm privacy, despite repeated warnings from experts.

Experts have explained that any compromise of end-to-end encryption to detect CSAM can add 'backdoors'.

This will expose users to hackers accessing personal information and messages. It'll put the very people who the government claims to be protecting at risk.

openrightsgroup,
@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org avatar

Suella Braverman (UK Home Secretary) refers to the Safety Tech Challenge Fund, funded by the government to look at tools for detecting CSAM on encrypted systems.

An evaluation of five of those projects shows the confidentiality of users' comms can't be guaranteed.

The UK government claims that message scanning won't put privacy at risk, but evidence from cyber-security experts contradicts this view.

This open letter from 80 experts and groups disproves claims made by Suella Braverman (Home Secretary).

Yesterday we sent an open letter to the UK government from 80 experts and civil society groups.

It isn't possible to scan messages in a way that only gets the 'bad guys'. Client-side scanning turns everyone's chats into dangerous spaces for privacy and security.

Welcome @apple! Affirming the longstanding expert consensus:

Encryption works for all or it’s broken for all. There’s no safe, private way to conduct mass surveillance. & no amount of magical thinking or specious claims will alter this stubborn reality.

cazabon,

@Mer__edith @apple

I've said this before, but...

#Encryption is #math .

There is no math that "the good guys" can do but which "the bad guys" cannot do.

"Responsible encryption" and "lawful access" are #lies designed to get you to give up your #privacy willingly.

#Refuse to do this. #Demand end-to-end encryption in everything.

#E2EE #LawfulAccess
