Had my head down labouring away for a couple of hours wiring & prototyping a bit of a circuit I needed to verify is possible. Of course I've already designed and fabbed the board that relies on it.

A bit ahead of myself I suppose, but I'm pleased to say it's a usable design. Just maybe a little backwards getting there – lol.

My microcomputer: , finally got working bitmap graphics.

(Please ignore top and bottom garbage - this is purely for debug purposes.)

This is akin to , where each 8x8 pixels cell can have 1 shared foreground and 1 background colour out of palette of 128 colours.

Except in my case, the line height is configurable, so you can have 8x1 cells up to even 8x256px cells.

From 100 people I try to talk to about #privacy, maybe 1 wants to 😅

Many know or suspect the issues with the #corporations collecting their #data but they try their best not to think about it, because they seem to feel helpless against it anyway.

Best way to change minds seems to be - living with privacy and answering questions when people notice your behavior & promoting / supporting alternative #software & #hardware.

#Mastodon has a big #userbase that cares about privacy, glad to be here!

Expecting some circuit boards today maybe. Exciting - my first use of right through to actually producing PCBs, though I've worked up a few schematics in the past, and one other PCB layout.

Haven't bought any new boards for a project in a couple of years either, so it's nice for that reason too.

Happy to have dumped from my tool set.

Yay - my circuit boards arrived yesterday evening.

Have been playing with getting a good fit into my unusually-shaped enclosure and think I've managed it. A hot soldering iron is very useful for sculpting changes in the 3Dprinted shell.

Accidental fumes from PLA are thankfully not too nasty – a bit sweet smelling.

Alas, I have to consider some other hardware that is more BSD friendly than what I currently have for my main laptop. Wifi worked great on NetBSD, whereas it was flaky on FreeBSD, but the audio input was the flaky one.

A ThinkPad, maybe? I'll gladly accept hardware recommendations for BSD-friendly models from at least a decade ago (read: cheap).

If I were to buy a new laptop with some version of newbie friendly linux preloaded, intending to use it for music and graphics arts (not gaming), social media, and regular LibreOffice type stuff (and affinity, audacity, etc), what laptop would I buy with what version of linux?

If anyone wants to or knows someone who wants to hack on a PineNote, let me know. I’m willing to send it to an eager developer for the cost of shipping. It’s unclear where the project is heading, but it seems some people are trying to run Debian and . There’s an effort to get mainline kernel support in for it. I just don’t have the patience and time to contribute.

I’ve already left a message in the Pine Discord offering the same.
