@odddev That's nice to have, though I'm more inclined to an alternative approach — transcription that is available for all voice messages. If a voice is more convenient than text for a person at a time, let them use it. But if a text is more suitable for me at a time, I'd want to turn the voice into a text message. I believe this is the best for both the sending and receiving parties. I like that #apple brings this approach to #imessage in #IOS17 🙏

I've composed an email to my dad and siblings proposing that we start using #Signal for group messages and video calls. I have wanted to switch to an #Android phone for a while now, but #iMessage and #FaceTime are some of the last big hurdles to me ditching #iPhone for good. I haven't sent the email yet...I don't know why I'm so worried about it. I guess I just hate to be "that guy" who doesn't want to do what everyone else is doing and cause them inconvenience.
I suspect that the eventual cross-platform solution to the incompatibility between #iMessage and #RCS in the #USA will just be everyone downloading an app like #Telegram (which is a honeypot) or #Signal, much how everyone uses #Whatsapp internationally.
Which I am sure that neither #Apple nor #Google wants.
The new stickers/Tapback functionality is interesting, but for my money the biggest improvement in Messages is the demotion of voice messages.
I have been accidentally triggering voice message recording for years, and have never deliberately sent one. The UI for this feature was terminally broken.
I do worry about the accessibility implications (there are surely people who rely on this and their lives just got harder), but this will be a quality of life improvement for me.
