Implemented menu icons in idkbin 1.3.6! They make the UI feel a lot more polished imo.
I also made these a standalone userstyle if you just want those.
Looks like the #threadiverse has been widely used by the #Lemmy and #Kbin communities for years, but now it's slowly being co-opted (including by #Meta staff) to refer to the #federation of #Threads.
I predict a complete takeover of the #hashtag, and term in general, before the end of 2024.
Trying out #Lemmy and #Kbin and my first impressions is that both are aggravating. Each has some positive aspects. But, besides both feeling very quiet, each one has UI aspects that drive me up the wall. I have followed the same 13 or so communities in each and I'll give it a go. But I think it might be a better tool for a distinct community rather than to replicate the #Reddit experience.
This script adds clean and aesthetic banners to communities based on their icon. If there is no icon, a stylish default image in the kbin colors is used instead....
I’d attribute this to Reddit always being more aligned with fediverse values/structures, based on self-organising sub-reddits. Many on lemmy are “live free or die”.
Masto culture by comparison still seems interested in being the one place.
Flipboard has recently begun federation, starting with 25 accounts. These accounts can be viewed from Kbin with their posts showing up as microblog posts....
Just learned that you can have dropdowns in Stylus settings, and I've implemented that in idkbin 1.3.5! Now you can choose from both of the "more" icons I was considering, among many other new options.
One of the things I find cool about Kbin is the fact that it's a platform for both thread aggregation and microblogging. How much do you use the latter side of things? Do you make microblog posts, actively browse the microblog tab, view them in your home feed, or rarely touch them?
If it seems like I'm currently talking a lot about "the Media Activist Manifesto," it's because I worked on it all year, and researched the subject for twenty years. I've arrived at the conclusion that, in the spirit of #ReseauMutu, or Mutu Network, the #Fediverse can hold a key to societal change through radical news, based on a framework similar to #Lemmy, #Kbin, and in particular #Beehaw. Imagine an online space to visit for anticapitalist and antifascist information and info relevant to whichever locality you're in. Those interested in helping develop this, please let me know! https://www.mediaactivist.com/manifesto/
So, apparently when using an ActivityPub enabled service, you agree to have your data harvested for the sake of corporate profits.
This has been said ad nauseam the past couple days and I would like to get proof.
Can anyone actually find the text where this exists? Whether it be connected to activitypub documents or mastodon. I just wanna see it so it's not debated anymore.
I didn't really think this was the case, but I've been wrong PLENTY of times before.
For those that think since your profile is public, anyone is entitled to your data for whatever purposes they see fit.
Let me ask you, do you keep your vehicle outside? If so, I'll be over shortly for a joyride. Where am I going and will you get the car back? Who knows, it's in public, free to use.
Today, I took care of several overdue formalities related to the project that were weighing on me. Besides the routine refactoring and work on the ActivityPub module, there are a few things I would like to do this weekend:...
While UI tweaks definitely aren't the top development priority as of now, the header currently feels a bit cluttered and unintuitive. When @ernest does get around to improving it, here are a few changes I suggest:...
idkbin 1.3.4 is out! This time around, I added a small icon next to the expand/collapse button on microblog posts. Like with most things in idkbin, it can be toggled.
With Meta beginning to test federation, there's a lot of discussion as to whether we should preemptively defederate with Threads. I made a post about the question, and it seems that opinions differ a lot among people on Kbin. There were a lot of arguments for and against regarding ads, privacy, and content quality, but I don't...
OC Dropdown Menu Icons 1.1.0 (userstyles.world)
This userstyle adds icons to the dropdown menus in the header — i.e., the add, channel select, and avatar menus in the top right....
Community Banners Script! (greasyfork.org)

Welcome to /m/vexillology!
This is a Kbin magazine all about vexillology — the study of flags! Feel free to look around, make a comment, or (even better) create a thread!...
How do we feel about Flipboard federating?

Comments getting doubled?
For some reason, my comments occasionally duplicate when I post them. Only started experiencing this issue today.
