It’s crazy how much of the comments about on the threadiverse are mad that the author is using or just complaining that they chose to build another implementation.

Most of it seems to be users who think that , , , etc don’t exist and no other federated link aggregator should exist.

i'm still on for the . One major confusiong aspect is the difference between boosting and faving: These seem to be two different things and only one works as "upvote" as reddit does – but it's not clear which one... Most sources on kbin say boost=upvote, but the explanations are confusing. Most sources outside kbin say the opposite. :/

@fediverse Is this a title ?

So... Theoretically this should be visible from Lemmy. Hi Lemmy users ! Greeting from Mastodon !
(Im never leaving the fediverse if this works)

TheFederatedPipe,

@PlasticPigeon Good to know it worked for you, never have tried though. For me is really good, and I don't see myself not using it in the future.

LaGrange, to random

Ok now I’m a little sad. I just recently found the Artifact app, and now it’s shutting down. What app do you all use to read various types of news on all kinds of topics?

shellsharks,

@LaGrange Here’s my “find news” strategy…

  • pure for manual curation (Got a lot of blogs here if you are interested https://shellsharks.com/infosec-blogs)

  • is slightly better since I get boosts in my timeline which with enough followed accounts turns into a kinda less-toxic “For You” algorithm

  • I use as my RSS platform and they suggest other blogs to sub to that are similar to ones that I already sub to

  • I’m also active on infosec-related / servers which feed me new stuff sometimes (though still not as effective as Reddit is/was when I was using it)

  • There’s some attempts at building algo’s on top of Mastodon as well as folks building curated lists ( being an example of the latter) that you could also look into.

I've been doing a lot with userstyles and userscripts lately!

First, I've just released idkbin 1.3.7 and Dropdown Menu Icons 1.1.0, both of which add icons to the "more" button's dropdown menu.

Second, I made my first userscript: Improved Channel Select Menu! This is my first time making something with —a good bit of the code is based of raltsm4k's Floating Subs List—but I'm really happy with it! Earlier today, I released version 0.2.0 which adds a settings button and some new features. If you have any feedback, please share here.

I know there are some out there, but I'm getting mixed signals about whether it's working or not. Anyone tried them?

and are technically forum softwares as well, even though their design lineage shares more in common with Reddit than traditional forum software. I assume you're already familiar with them 😅

Lastly, while @luceos and I have not spoken at length about integration, it is in our best interest to work together so that compatibility between our platforms is strong. All thanks to !

I did made another magazine on another KBin instance, but I don't seem to make it work when i pasted the community handle on my main instance. Sure, it worked on my Mastodon, but on my home KBin instance, it doesnt show that community. I'm gone wrong.

Radgryd, to kbin

Could someone recommend a working and well-maintained or instance to me? I deleted my Lemmy account because of reasons and I thought kbin looked pretty nice, so I signed up to kbin.cafe only to realise that the last few federated posts are from 2+ weeks ago, lol.

OC Improved Channel Select Menu 0.2.0 — Makes your subscribed magazines and liked channels more accessible (greasyfork.org)

One of my most wanted features as of late has been for the channel select menu to have my subscribed magazines and liked collections. Right now, it just contains some general feeds, but I thought it'd be super useful to also have your mags and collections there for easy access! However, given that Kbin development priorities are...

However you arrived, there is much to discover & new cool things get built here all the time:

= Twitter without the .
= Instagram but not trying to sell spinfluencers' stuff to you.
=Youtube but not ads based.
= Facebook but not harvesting data or manipulating our timelines.
& = Reddit but without monetizing off all their users unpaid content & exiling critics.
& the variations (this is one) = Mastodon+ Twitter replacement with various extra QoL things like quote posts, blogs, media reuse, post controls, user cards, rendered multi-links, super customisable UI, custom feeds etc.

We're one week into 2024, do you know what that means? Time to clean up your “following” especially here in the .

  • Check the “dormant” accounts if you can unfollow them.

  • Check which accounts “moved”. Follow their new account, then unfollow their old account.

And maybe there are other accounts that you haven't interacted with in the past few months; and their content is no longer something that you are interested, you can unfollow them too.

If you still want to see their content, you can encourage them to use and you follow those hashtags. Or, join a federated “group” like those powered by and .

Of course, depending on the fediverse platform your instance is using, there are probably better features to the content of users without seeing their content that is not of interest to you. A good example, / / can do that through the “Antenna” feature.

Take some time to do this, and start your 2024 fediverse better than 2023.

Wait... wants to create an ? But hasn't and the already done that? From I can follow anyone on , , , , and so on.

We do not need , , , , and the rest!

Could we get something like PieFed's "Add Remote" button?

A super helpful feature that PieFed (a new fediverse thread aggregator like Lemmy & Kbin) has is an "Add Remote" button on its communities page. This button allows you to get a community on another instance to appear on your PieFed instance (and thus get the PieFed instance to start getting posts from that community)....

PieFed's "Add Remote" interface, used to add communities from other servers.

@retrobeetism I have a similar experience. groups (at least after it went offline for almost a month(?)) rarely works all other platforms (those I've tried). But groups, forums, magazine, and communities, there are rarely any problems.

My brain tells me that the issue is with Guppe platform, since all other similar software works fine. They did something to break interoperability with the rest of the Fediverse, and created its own bubble with Mastodon.
