In Nepal’s sacred Tsum Valley, Buddhist community members are conflicted about the ongoing construction of a road that will pass through the region.
The Tsum Valley is one of the few, if not last, remaining beyul, or sacred valleys, governed by customary and Buddhist laws, where humans and wildlife have lived together in harmony for more than a millennium.

Sumadera (須磨寺) is a unique #temple full of iconographic #arts, at the western end of Kōbe (神戸). Perhaps because it's not in Kyōto or Nara, there is little information available online about Sumadera, even in #Japanese. It was founded in 886 and has its own branch of Kūkai's #Shingon#Buddhism: Sumadera-ha (真言宗須磨寺派). It is internationally active, and a place for #religious practices rather than an outdoor museum. By the same token, it's free to enter.
Suma appears in ancient waka poetry (和歌) of 5-7-5-7-7 syllables, and is associated with the Heike Monogatari (平家物語). I was determined to go, despite the rain, because I'd read an article clarifying wabi and sabi with a #waka coincidentally about Suma. The first photos show Sumadera's exchanges with #Nepal resulting in a display of Tibetan #Buddhist and #Hindu#iconography. Although there was light rain on the beach at first, later up at Sumadera the day turned bright.
"An avalanche on Mt Manaslu in Gorkha district on Sunday morning crashed into the Birendra lake, setting off flash floods downstream.

By some estimates, #Russia has been sending thousands of foreign men to fight in #Ukraine since #Putin ordered the invasion.

Nepal’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation relocated five one-horned rhinos from Chitwan National Park’s western region to its eastern side on March 21 to balance the distribution of the animal’s population and reduce competition and fighting for limited resources.
In 2007, Nepal's Supreme Court ordered the government to legally recognize a third gender category, audit laws to identify discriminatory ones, and explore recognition of same-sex relationships. Eight years later, a new constitution came into effect that has language specifically protecting LGBTQI people. So. Global Press Journal's Yam Kumari Kandal wonders, why are same-sex couples finding it so difficult to have their marriages recognized, and how did one couple, Adheep Pokhrel and Tobias Volz, break through the bureaucracy?
