Jen at Defend Digital Me has don’t great work exposing this. It’s the same pattern collect data for a legitimate use then before you know it the data forms part of our increasingly totalitarian surveillance state. Trust in schools will take another hit as people learn to distrust institutions https://schoolsweek.co.uk/revealed-secret-deal-to-let-benefit-fraud-squad-snoop-on-pupil-data/

How to read articles/news as a in a and way on .

Sometimes I'm busy and can't read at that moment, so I save the article/news as plain text in a PDF file to read it later. It works most of the time, but it's not perfect.

You'll need: torsocks (optional), lynx and LibreOffice installed.

Save it as a file like "pdf.sh", make it executable with "chmod +x pdf.sh" and then use it like this:

./pdf.sh https://website.com/article

I can confidently diagnose as sociopaths.

Promised therapy customers privacy...then gave their mental health info to advertisers.

Victims get less than ten bucks each.

Company made billion+ in revenue last year alone.

In a just society with good privacy laws, they'd face existential civil & criminal consequences.

@jsrailton I’d have preferred a larger fine given the conduct occurred over the course of more than 5 years, but I can understand why the FTC didn’t throw the book.

BetterHelp agreed to two decades of compliance restrictions and monitoring, which will either prevent reoccurrence or create indisputable liability for breaching it. The agreement is likely to be used as a baseline for other market participants without needing to pass new regulations, which is extremely valuable.

Surprisingly easy to log and track Bluetooth identifiers... I wonder if anyone has built a mapping/triangulation program based on signal strength for beacons... . https://github.com/e-m3din4/ubertooth-bt-tracker

ai6yr,

@petes_bread_eqn_xls I can see why they are using Bluetooth for in-store tracking... figure out what aisles people are shopping at, quite detailed. I was only made aware of this by Target emailing me a "thanks for visiting!" after I accidentally left my BT on at a store (typically, it is off).

Companies doing business in the United States should have liability for users and customers' personal information. Companies sharing that data with third parties should retain that liability, and the third parties should accrue additional liability. (NOT assume responsibility for the liability!) By liability, I don't mean "pay for credit monitoring from a company that has previously lost the same data", I mean cash on the barrel head, payable to the customer liability.
