Thread 🧵

@beardedtechguy and myself are looking for someone to help us grow #AllThingsTech in every way possible. This includes our blog, our instance, our wiki, our Discord and our community in general.

We're looking for someone that is super active here on Mastodon and will continue to do so going forward.

We're looking for someone that is willing to talk about the instance, advertise the instance and recruit for the instance if possible. (cont...)

I'll be shifting my online presence to my WordPress blog more over the next few months and use Micro.blog less. There's a post explaining why I'm making the pivot in my drafts folder, but basically, it all comes down to having total control.

Even Google admits - grudgingly - that it is losing the spam wars. The explosive proliferation of botshit has supercharged the sleazy "search engine optimization" business, such that results to common queries are 50% Google ads to spam sites, and 50% links to spam sites that tricked Google into a high rank (without paying for an ad):

Currently trying to use #Pelican (a #staticsite #generator in #Python) to make a personal #blog #website.

Turns out it's excellent at making a #site that is a blog, but it's not great at making a site that has a blog.

Wrestling through a whole mess of #config options... 😵‍💫

Added this header to vole site to opt it out of Chrome's new feature that analyses your browsing & tells any site about topics you're into https://developer.chrome.com/en/docs/privacy-sandbox/topics/#site-opt-out
(Do I think it's a particularly awful privacy invasion vs ad networks etc? No, but I can easily opt out so I will)

I don’t know what type of website you manage where you would even consider blocking chrome, that’s unfortunately roughly 65% of traffic, 70% if you include edge.

Maybe your site is for a niche group of people who mostly Firefox users? I’m just very surprised that’s an option for you as unfortunately chrome is what most people use.

Anyway It looks like you can add headers in your server response to opt out of the calculation.

A fandom space of my own

After leaving LJ, I never really set up shop on DW, and I sincerely missed the social side of fandom, since AO3 (my main source of fandom content for several years) isn't really set up for it. Then I joined Tumblr, and while the site is a hell hole, I got kind of used to it - until the big policy change in December made it pretty clear to a lot of people that fando
