"Like a replicant dying in the rain, memories fading, some of these are the games I hope no one forgets. As such, my number one pick from 1993 until now is System Shock.” Harvey Smith (Deus Ex, Dishonored)
Just reading the latest #EDGE anniversary issue 390. It has a well curated "100 greatest games of all time" list - worth checking out. I feel very fortunate that I have played many of these games.
Despite what the #Steam Store page claims: The #SystemShock remake does NOT have Steam Cloud support. I had to learn this the hard way when I started it on my new PC and my entire save file was gone.
Granted, I didn't make it far in on my old one, but still: People should be aware of that, especially when they also have a #SteamDeck
System Shock Remake finally has seen the light of day and Digital Foundry have taken a deep dive into the return for modern systems and compare it with the original from 1994.
well...the truth hurts, sometimes: "The real performance hits came from the lighting. Originally, we were going with a baked lighting scheme. But then, when we started playing the game, and we wanted to [be able to] blow out the lights, have that kind of immersion, we switched everything over to real time. And that's when we started seeing big performance drops in certain areas." #systemshockhttps://arstechnica.com/gaming/2023/05/interview-how-system-shock-balanced-faithful-recreation-and-modern-design/
So, the #SystemShock remake actually came out yesterday and it's very good.
The aesthetic is downright perfect, the combat is weighty and simple and systems- and level-design wise, it seems to be extremely faithful to the original.
I finished the first level, except for the radioactive parts and I'm very glad Nightdive took their time with this.
Backed the System Shock Kickstarter project back in 2016, and today the game is going to come out. I got my key yesterday, and at 3pm I’ll get the game on my Steam Deck. So excited!
