Fellow drivers:

If you put this system in your car - or ANY ad-based system like it - and it is sitting 2' in front of my face (the car was a Corolla - small), I'll be docking you 1 star!

This system which blares ads in my face - who's mute button engages only UNTIL the next ad, then unmutes - is NOT rider-friendly!

Also, when I tell you the speed in my retirement community is STRICTLY 15mph, then GO 15mph, not 25mph! 1 more star!

This got 3 stars from me! 😡

As a learning experience, I’ve been an driver for the last 10 days. I was curious what it was like, how the app and algorithm works. Very interesting.

Here are numbers for mileage, time and income so far. Note that I live in Montgomery county, PA, just NW of Philly. I’m sure more money is to be made in Philly, but I don’t care.

Also: We have a 14 month old Tesla Model 3. Did 7,000 miles in the first year. This can easily rack up miles. Electricity cost is about $1 per 30 miles driven.

Yesterday night the train didn't go last 4 miles to my home town. I was forced to take a .

Driver said it may cost 50 Euro, which I replied was very expensive.

But in NL taxi's used to have prescribed rates measured on official taxi meters. So I was resigned to pay that.

During the ride we talked how shit was. Then I noticed no meter in sight. "Yeah, its an app" driver said.

At destination he just typed 50 Euro in taxi app. The meter was BS.

I hit the button to open my van's side-doors & my attention was attracted towards a man flailing his arms & yelling at a woman & her daughter. His exact words were: "You damned ! You think you own the world! You're gonna learn different!"

As the man saw me & walked towards me, I closed the doors, put the van into gear, and drove away. 🤬

Uber says it finally made an annual profit after 15 years, but who paid the price to get it there?

The company fired 6,700 workers, hiked fares for customers, and squeezed drivers even harder. Now the stock is up and investors will get a $7 billion share buyback. It turns your stomach.

You might have heard Gig workers are taking time out of their day today to protest working conditions from companies like and others.

Well, I just got this email from Door Dash at exactly 11AM PST when many people are doing this 'strike’.

The link goes to a form letter to the BC Government. But it's locked, you can't personalize it. I was going to remove all their text and say “I support regulating Gig work and improving working conditions”.

If you support workers rights, if you use these services, or if you're a gig worker yourself. Please contact your government in your area and urge them to follow the lead of others regulating gig work.

A statement read on the CBC this morning from Door Dash said they're not concerned.

Obviously.... they are.

Why? Because we're taking action together for fair wages and protection.

If you would like to send an actual letter to the BC Minister of Labour supporting Gig Workers in their fight for fair working conditions, send an email to LBR.Minister@gov.bc.ca

If you'd like a "form letter" (that you can modify!) I'll put what I wrote to Minister Bains in the next reply.

The second part of the email says: “Recently, the City of Seattle rolled out new delivery pay rules. While well-intentioned, the Seattle ordinance is backfiring. Seattle Dashers are experiencing the unintended consequences of that policy, and it is hurting more than it is helping. Don’t let this happen to BC Dashers! While we support common-sense measures like standardizing and improving trip and pay transparency measures across all platforms, other aspects of the proposals the BC government is considering could jeopardize your flexibility and earning opportunities on platforms like DoorDash. The British Columbia Ministry of Labour and its Minister Harry Bains needs to hear from you today! Take action now to send a letter to the Ministry of Labour and share why they should consider the needs of Dashers before making any changes to the way you work. Take Action Now”
A screenshot of the web form that the take action button links to. The text box is not editable.

The bad thing about for drivers? I drive the same areas daily. These happen to be in Disney World - a huge place for stolen devices. BUT iPhone lists many hotels/resorts/parks here as "familiar places" in my settings.

Thus anyone stealing my phone here at those locations are exempt from Stolen Device Protection - and can change my pw with impunity. 😳

Not good.

Remember how Cruise withheld details of the incident with a pedestrian being dragged by one of their vehicles? Now 9 execs have been fired. It’s one concern that the tech is not ready, but a much bigger concern when the problems are hidden from oversight. There should be criminal charges next. The damage that has been done to public trust of autonomous vehicles, especially from GM, will be very hard to earn back. Meanwhile Waymo seems to be operating much more safely in SF. But remember Waymo is partnered with Uber which has a spotty track record with regulators. https://apple.news/Alzdpl_dxTU6Py7-M-msBwg #Cruise #GM #Waymo #Uber

The Uber Rich Are Funding "National School Choice Week" to Attack Public Schools

Another week, another #BigTech (#gigeconomy) share buyback... this time its #Uber.

Ostensibly to help reduce stock dilution caused by stock awards to core staff (including the CEO), once again (as I've pointed out before), it shows that Uber's #business model is nothing to do with investment in #innovation & everything to do with #wagetheft & expoiting #workers.

Uber doesn't need any tech innovation or new kit, so investment not required; just keeps sh*ting on the drivers to make a profit!
