Yes, plants need sunlight, but some need less than others, and indeed get stressed by too many photons. Shading those crops [with solar panels] means they will require less water, which rapidly evaporates in an open field. Plus, plants “sweat,” which cools the panels overhead and boosts their efficiency. ‘It is a rare win-win-win.'”

Running Tide and other carbon-removal companies are discovering what it means to take carbon seriously. It’s still very possible that kelp itself won’t end up being a feasible approach to removing carbon from the atmosphere. Still, the company is a preview of a future in which “net zero” is something more than faraway corporate promises.”

This cat’s skin glows fluorescent green under UV light! The gene is in his living cells, so it doesn’t show up in his fur…they should’ve shaved him for the news segment.

“These days, ‘Ata is considered uninhabitable. But “by the time we arrived,” Captain Warner wrote in his memoirs, “the boys had set up a small commune with food garden, hollowed-out tree trunks to store rainwater, a gymnasium with curious weights, a badminton court, chicken pens and a permanent fire, all from handiwork, an old knife blade and much determination.” While the boys in Lord of the Flies come to blows over the fire, those in this real-life version tended their flame so it never went out, for more than a year.

Lobster,

I likes #permaculture, it suits my needs for perms and hair beading, raised #bedding and other #simplified/#joyous #harvesting.

So many #useful #projects from #crop #recycling to #learning by #example. #Urban #farming. Indoor #hydroponics.

For example as our side streets in #London are cleared of central areas (aka side roads. We have #room for #polytunnels and other street #initiatives to feed our need for food, home and #solarcooking etc.

The better world is calling us from the future feature

Y'know I'd love love LOVE an e-reader with a red light.

Not a warm white light, not an orange light, not a yellow light; a RRRED light. Like, the colour red. As in red LEDs.

Decades of insomnia only alleviated by using a rooted phone with a red-subpixels-only option have ruined me for anything else.

cazabon,

@ifixcoinops @eniko

This aligns with my experience.

Blue LED alarm clock is dumb enough as it is - whoo, blue LEDs, they were cool and new in 1995, but even then a dumb idea for a nighttime clock - but green? Worst possible choice; your eyes are most sensitive to green light.

I'm wondering if you have any on the " " proposal by some folks. I wrote a short thread about it, but would be interested in hearing your thoughts before reading it (if you do read it - I'm not demanding it 😀 ).

cazabon,

Fair enough; I didn't see them. I'll go hunting. Thanks.

I'm a of <mumble> years with extensive work in // fields - and the proposal alarms me, simply because so many of the things that make the web and to people now would, fairly obviously, not be able to earn a "" designation by any "" -- at least not one that had any intention of being / by etc.

I thought I'd #share #PlaybackSpeed a #Firefox #Plugin that saves me hours a week now that #News videos all annoyingly seem to be > 10 minutes.

It speeds up any #video and seems to work with most embedded videos, not just #YouTube ones. #MeidasTouch and most #MSNBC work well at 2x

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/playback-speed/

I hate the phrase #Lifehack for #useful #advice but for tagging's sake. There's probably one for #Chrome but I don't use that.

Whilst you are at it:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/go-to-playing-tab-2/ is also great.
