Poverty among children more than doubled in the United States last year, as living costs rose and many federal pandemic aid programs ended.
The overall poverty rate rose to 12.4 percent in 2022 from 7.8 percent in 2021, the largest one-year jump on record.

, in an interview commenting on his 11 children, noted that society’s biggest threat is, as he described it, “Population Collapse”. This seems to be a mantra of Silicon Valley tech bros & gurus, including a lot of bloggers and podcasters - it’s like the holy grail - and it is so backasswards wrong on all levels that it is simply stunning anyone believes this. I know the economics involved, but in the age of robotization and automation, this is simply BS. These idiots (who all consider themselves geniuses entitled to lead the way) NEED to maintain the status quo at all costs for their models to work and their billions to be protected; when what the planet and the human race needs is downsizing, less resource extraction, less travel, reduced emissions and fossil fuel use, less globalization and more local ecosystem development. It’d be a short-term burden for some, but would save the planet and the human race in the long run.

The gross imbalances of cancer research must be addressed - Global cancer-research ecosystems invest billions of dollars in the development of oncological medicines and technologies, such as robotics and radiotherapy, yet comparatively little into programmes that aim to advance affordable, equitable and high-quality care and outcomes. I’m finding that, for me, the loss of Reddit is hitting a lot harder than the demise of Twitter ever did. I did enjoy Twitter, pre-Musk, especially for getting the latest news and tuning in to the many high-level conversations that USED TO happen there - gone now. But for me was also kinda like shouting in the wind, too vast, too impersonal. But the many sub-reddits I subscribe to were community, and in some cases, even like family to me. Reddit has changed now, in so many ways, and is just a shadow of its former self. It’s a damn shame. A lot of my favorite subs are gone, or have new moderators who are clueless. The content on the site is miserable when compared to the past. I’m seeing so much junk, inane junk at that, in my feed. I’d been so comfortable on Reddit, an entirely enjoyable daily habit. Now, more often than not, the platform is a frustrating disappointment. End of rant.

is real, and a real worry is that once they finally recognize it and stop their denial, orthodox religionists, especially evangelicals, are going to insist it is ‘god’s will’, a sign of the end of times, and we should therefore accept and celebrate it. I expect they will stand in the way of those who seek to mitigate it, plan for the changes it will certainly bring, and legislate regulations designed to minimize the damage. Hell no, they’ll be all ‘bring it on, we’re on our way to heaven’. That’s going to be a huge problem for the rest of us, the rational, science-based ones who take this shit seriously. I’m not kidding here, we need to have strategies in place to deal with those who would stand in the way of solutions and the cultural changes necessary to avoid a worsening .
