We often hear that our social media friends aren't real friends.
BS.

This was one of the last messages from one of those friends before they passed.

There are souls I’ve met on SM that have shared themselves openly and honestly, who have been genuine in their interaction, as much as anyone I’ve met in “real life.”

Many have become IRL friends as well, but even those I may never meet are meaningful.

+ 's performance of "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" in 1994 from "The Last Great Traffic Jam" (2005).

In 1978, when I hosted 10PM-2AM on a no-format, station in tinytown , I'd put this track on—15 minutes—and "step out back for a smoke." My show's sole sponsor was Rolling Papers.

That's how it was in my 70s-stoner South.

Birthday-related story! Back when I lived in Chicago, there was this guy in my neighborhood who rode the same bus to work.

He kiiiiiind of reminded me of Biggie Smalls and he was absolutely hilarious and, over time, we ended up becoming actual friends and I invited him to my birthday party which was pretty informal and at a local beer garden.

All of my friends were sitting at this big table and he walked in with a gigantic Edible Arrangement.

I was absolutely shocked because it was such a nice gesture and I was a full grown adult so it had been years since I’d received any sort of birthday present and I was like “Oh wow thank you this is amazing I never get birthday presents!” and he paused and gave me a look and said “White people don’t give birthday presents? You are some weird people.”

I worked at different Apple Stores over several years starting from 2005 on, and one of my favorite stories is from when I worked in an Apple Store in the suburbs of Chicago and Harold Ramis came in to buy an iPhone.

Everyone was warned to not mention ANYTHING about Ghostbusters or his past career and my coworker patiently worked with him on selecting his iPhone model and getting it activated.

Once everything was finally set up, Harold placed the phone next to his ear and my coworker clearly lost all control because he said:

“Who you gonna call?”
