Joyce Vance: “This is a five-alarm fire. We know what the reaction would be if Joe #Biden tweeted a photo of a bound and gagged Donald #Trump in the trunk of an electric car. Why does Donald Trump get more leeway, especially with his past history? He only continues to get it because our institutions—the courts, the Republican party—let him take it.”
@GottaLaff each time he nudges the dial and each time he can get away with it. Problem is the next nudge could be bloody.
At least that is my view from over here. At this point I fear he is untouchable until he isn't (if that makes sense, the untouchable bit will keep pushing boundaries until they are enforced)
@BasicAppleGuy Damn I am old. But more likey back then.
Had the emac (cos skint), drooled over the power mac, not sure my 120gb ipod is out yet? (think it was the 120, have to check)
Oh yeah, dial up back then, iTunes movie trailers, had to wait for the small clip to download bought a licence for quick time.
I talk to people from the UK pretty regularly, I watch a lot of BBC programming, I read a lot of books by authors from the UK, but sometimes they will suddenly use a word I've never heard in my life, and I'm beginning to think they are pranking us, and every other person from the UK is in on the joke, and just validates whatever the other person says!
@arstechnica I dunno, there was something special hearing Concord open up with a double boom as it stretched it legs over the Atlantic leaving the UK. More a double thud from my house. I thought a VC10 was louder on take off though.
More evidence of the malice of the Post Office in the Horizon IT case(s) it brought.
What is interesting is how this whole situation is unravelling like an onion to reveal at its heart a vindictive & callous PO management who were prepared to collude with Fujitsu in covering up the problems with the software.
Its almost unbelievable that people could act this way... but then we only have to look to our political class to see where they got the idea from!
@ChrisMayLA6 unravelling yes but it looks a controlled unravelling. Damage limitation control. The tv show is now a memory for the audience, move onto the next upset to be upset about. Fujitsu look to get the UK gov ID card contract coming up.(PASS scheme). BAU.
A well-meaning rescuer brought what they thought was a baby hedgehog to a wildlife hospital in Cheshire, U.K., only to be told it was the pompom from a hat. Here's the sweet story from the BBC.
@CultureDesk I have had a giggle but the intent is excellent, hogs out in the day need urgent help especially nippers cos parents can abandon them as we demolish their homes in spring clean ups, and that rescue means going to a rescue. Had to do it myself a few times (but they were real hedgehogs).
😀
Whilst checking for hedgehog's, we also see the puss out and about. Despite him on the cushion when we wake up, he is about all hours (he must slip in just before the alarm to make it look he spent the night on the cushion). Clocked him out and about a lot this camera session. Youngster also out and about. #Cat#Cats#CatsOfMastodon
#Hedgehog using the ramp. There is a large step off the patio to the rhubarb, under the #rhubarb will be good hunting for the #Hedgehogs, there is the long way around but had these concrete edging slabs doing nothing so built a ramp for the hogs. #Wildlife#Nature
Canva acquires Serif’s Affinity Suite, and I can’t help feeling doom about this.
I’ve worked with Canva in the past and they were good people, but this feels like a move towards subscriptions. I guess that’s kind of inevitable these days anyway, but being bought out often signals the end. I love the Affinity suite and I hope I’m wrong.
@jonhicks Oh heck. Hope this doesn't go south. I like Affinity cos pricing and product and been using it since it came out. If subs come in then I am out.
Edit. Just reading the FAQ on Affinity and BAU for the time being. (with caveats it seems)
Quality of the image when the hog is in shot is not great but want to hear a #Hedgehog sniffing out its food? Volume up.
I understand Hedgehogs rely on their sense of smell more than their eyes to locate prey.
(large leaves at the back is my rhubarb, already ready this year, weather is nuts) #Hedgehogs#Wildlife#Nature
#Trump is fuming about losing his properties to the NY AG--potentially as soon as today--just before he heads to court on his separate criminal case against the Manhattan DA.
@flexghost ehwhutnow? Wow! I mean really wow! Really wow with bells on. This what they are doing?
heck, they didn't like them WWII where the contrails from the bombers basically said "attack here" to the German air force . The Germans and RAF left them over London during the Battle of Britain.
Read somewhere that to deliver something this way needs an ocean going liner sized aircraft.
If heat pumps are part of the answer for how the UK makes a green transition, then the (next) Govt. needs to do a better job of supporting & incentivising their roll-out.
To reach the current target of 600k heat pumps installed a year by 2028, the installation rate would need to rise 11-fold... delays & shifting policy will not achieve that.
Would love to see a properly costed install for my needs with a benefit to jump. Things I "hear" but have no idea on. My double glazing will need to be changed. My cavity walls will need insulating (that worries me a lot). My radiators are too small. Roof insulation is not enough. The pipes are too small. The units noisy and will wake the neighbours.
Seems a big push on some actual facts as well as a help package.
@tony@ScotInTraining@ChrisMayLA6 Thats nuts. I need the cooling these last few years. The house bakes in the hot summers, we reach 30's often indoors. I have to run an aircon on occasion. I am taping radiator insulation panels on the sun facing windows to cut the heat intake to the house. We don't seem to build for a warm climate.
Upshot though, unless there is movement, I get a new gas boiler when they are about to be banned seems the only way forward.
