@StillIRise1963 They still allow masks in some cases, like when members of a "secret society" are conducting parades or demonstrations...

Gotta go? We’ve finally found out what makes urine yellow

The yellow color comes from bacteria metabolizing waste from red blood cells.

@arstechnica ummmm... hasn't this been known for a long time? The urobilinogen formed from the breakdown of bilirubin in the intestines is then metabolized to either urobilin (which gives pee the yellow color) or stercobilin (which stays in the intestines and gives poop much of its brown color). These are things I learned in A&P back in 2012...

@thejapantimes All this means is there is a low confidence in the level of risk. And the risk level shown in the literature is about 1% increased lifetime risk if you drink 12-36 servings of aspartame-sweetened beverages daily. The carbonation and phosphoric acid are likely causing more harm at that point. People shouldn't really be drinking soda much anyway, but 1-3 a day is nothing in terms of risk. The water from your tap is probably worse for you at that level with the HAAs in most places.

Something happening on the Invasion of Live Threads over on - users are rapidly embracing links, and there is a demand for it as a viable alternative.

Given how much these mega-threads have relied on the Bird Site for updates over the last 17 months, this is a very significant development. If all the main accounts end up on here, Twitter may lose its monopoly in this regard.

@alexanderhay would be neat to see the Ukrainian govt push hard on establishing mastodon instances. Would be a nice home for all those invested in the struggle for peace/democracy/freedom.

I do this often outside of work too. It's usually because I browse Wikipedia at night before bed and look for details on things while in a pre-sleep fugue state.

Your tweets can no longer be viewed by people who are not logged in. If you tweet something today, you’re not sharing it publicly.

This basically prevents me from tweeting original content anymore. I cannot have my tweets be behind a login wall. That’s unacceptable.

I cannot even share links to tweets anymore because some of my readers may not be able to easily access that content.

Twitter has made bad moves recently, but this is the worst by far.

Jumpmed,
@Jumpmed@mastodon.social avatar

@simevidas every time you open Twitter, you are supporting a billionaire far-right anarcho-capitalist edgelord. When the lifeguard is the one shitting in the pool, you stop going to that pool.

Dear Americans,

Affirmative action was never about admitting unqualified Black kids. It was always about ensuring qualified Black kids could also get accepted despite a world of systemic racism.

The “unqualified admission” you’re thinking of are legacy students—like how Kavanaugh got into Yale.

And there was reporting/testimony he sexually assaulted Dr. Ford and at least one other classmate.

Jumpmed,
@Jumpmed@mastodon.social avatar

@skykiss
Legacy admissions are an admission that the children of alumni are not academically superior to other applicants. Any school that has legacy admissions should not be taken seriously (and yet, here we are).

@scottearle Ah okay. Yeah, I haven't really seen it used here in the US much for prepackaged drinks, mostly just as the powder for adding to coffee, tea, baked goods, etc.
