I do not know the context of this AFP photo, but I feel like it needs a bit of to have him holding something. A large pumpkin? A balloon? A giant round head? (Update: to see some great additions, click on "Expand This Post" on the three dots).

KO6YQ,

@ai6yr Whatever he's "holding", we can rule out a meteorite because one that size would be too heavy to lift easily.

This may be obvious, but I recently started routinely adding "-youtube" to google searches. This eliminates most pages with links to garbage YouTube-monetized videos that try to attract people looking for basic instructions on how to do simple things. Greatly improves the quality of search results.

KO6YQ,

@mattblaze And similarly you can block YouTube results from DuckDuckGo searches by using -site:youtube

Musk's continued messing up ex-Twitter/whatever-it-is-now is strange. He used to have a reputation for being brilliant. The stupid moves seem like revenge for being compelled by court to make good on his offer to buy Twitter, when he wanted to withdraw.

Then again, current actions can't rule out that he's really gone off the deep end. It could be all as crazy as it sounds.

Since the news media seems to want to stay on the platform, the best possible outcome for them would be if they all band together and buy it from him. The worst possible outcomes would follow from letting the current downward trends play out.

Elno did not get the permits for the new sign (I'll never call it by its letter). This is unacceptable and it should be taken down.

KO6YQ,

@mookie A new nickname I've been using for Twitter/𝕏 is "the birb". And everyone seems to understand it so far.

How it looks from someone on the receiving end of Elno's epilepsy inducing flashing logo.

KO6YQ,

@mookie It's obnoxious. But bright flashing lights aren't enough to induce seizures in people vulnerable to it. The flash rate has to be faster than that. (Things pilots have to know - like don't position a plane where the sun shines at you through a propeller at landing/idle rpm.)

Microsoft wants to move Windows fully to the cloud https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/27/23775117/microsoft-windows-11-cloud-consumer-strategy What could possibly go wrong? What if the Microsoft Cloud goes down? For instance, if a surgeon needs to access crucial information about their patients during an operation and can't due to technical issues in Windows PC in cloud. The cloud is bad for emergency use cases. Is MS going to guaranty 100% uptime?

KO6YQ,

@nixCraft Use of Microsoft is optional. 🐧

If you need to redirect output and errors to /dev/null while using bash/sh shell scripting, you can do so by combining stderr with stdout and then redirecting the combined output to /dev/null device. This will effectively redirect any error messages to /dev/null in & . See https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-to-redirect-output-and-errors-to-devnull/

KO6YQ,

@nixCraft There was a nasty /dev/null vulnerability 20 years ago. 😀 http://www.linuxmisc.com/22-unix-security/06b1e06a72404634.htm

KO6YQ,

@nixCraft Dark mode also lowers display power consumption, important for devices using batteries.

Hey @fedora - this looks like a cut+paste error from an older event and you'll want to know about it to correct it. The F38 Release Party page has June 2-3 in the subtitle line, but sessions listed as Nov 4-5 https://hopin.com/events/fedora-linux-38-release-party/registration

@mookie @sgt1372 @SplatterDaddy Battlestar Galactica is a rare exception. But the bar was set low by the awful original which didn't deserve to be rebooted... until it was done well the second time.

KO6YQ,

@Tekchip @mookie @sgt1372 @SplatterDaddy Depends on the rating source since they're all small samples. On Rotten Tomatoes, "most" rated it bad. (36% positive) Sci-Fi fans are generally fall into two camps:

  • those who liked the music as a kid
  • those who found the production cringe-worthy and a cheap rip-off of Star Wars

On a bike ride tonight I kept watching north in case the big solar storm's aurora make an exceptional showing down here in California. But there's a thin cirrus overcast, so no chance. The most colors I saw were the lights on San Jose City Hall.

KO6YQ,

Riding through the "Sonic Runway" art exhibit in front of San Jose City Hall. LED lighting effects follow the music down the pipe at the speed of sound.
