Some thoughtless bumbag had thrown away an old bike wheel https://www.flickr.com/photos/woolamaloo_gazette/53645903183/in/photostream/

Although stranded in the huge puddle between the trees, it did at least make for a nice monochrome photo subject

Merchiston Ave is closed off but still rather busy, small tents, lots of equipment lorries, looks like they are prepping for some location filming shoot. I wonder what they are filming?

Rainy Edinburgh street, filled with small, black tents and large equipment lorries from film suppliers, setting up for a location shoot

Update: turns out they're filming English language adaptation of Scandi crime novels Department Q for Netflix

@Wen me too, but many people will simply not watch subtitled works, some can't concentrate on film if reading them, so no surprise they remake it. Other language societies do the same. I prefer original language and subs, myself

Taken this day, 2020, it's so tiring https://www.flickr.com/photos/woolamaloo_gazette/49750737431/

"ces chaussures sont beaucoup plus jolies que les tiennes" ("these shoes are a lot prettier than yours")

Hmm, DuoLingo is getting a bit childish and mean in this evening's lessons!

animated gif from the classic1940s British film The Red Shoe, with Moira Shearer's ballerina running excitedly towards the titular red shoes, which magically attach themselves to her feet

Great to see the BBC site do a decent article on the Bryan Talbot https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wear-68712698

Such an astonishing & diverse body of work. Chairing Bryan & Mary at the Edinburgh Book Fest was a delight (we could have talked so much longer!)

My lords, ladies, gentlemen and associated other sentient lifeforms - rejoice, for the Cymera festival (Edinburgh's most excellent festival for literary SF, Fantasy & horror) programme for this year is now live!

Looking forward to this! Already booked my weekend pass, and hope to be chairing some interesting events again.

Taken this day, 2015, walking on water https://www.flickr.com/photos/woolamaloo_gazette/17019890906/

Perspective makes it look as if the people viewing the Bass Rock are walking on the water.

Shock news, most of the youngest billionaires on the planet were - gasp! - born wealthy already https://boingboing.net/2024/04/04/new-study-shows-that-literally-every-billionaire-under-30-was-born-wealthy-also-water-wet.html

Goodness me, I am gobsmacked to learn most of them earned this ridiculous status of obscene wealth by the privilege of birth and not by the great capitalist mantra of hard work and dedication, from rages to riches!

Old street sign in the New Town, paint slowly fading away. Most street signs have long been replaced by the rectangular metal variety, but every now and then you can still find one of these old style ones.
