Imagine what a game changer being able to mind meld with a doctor would be. They could experience your physical issues and maybe actually be able to help.

“Right, your mind to my mind….argh! ARGHHHHH!!!! FUCK WHAT THE HELL! HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO FUNCTION LIKE THIS!!!!”

PeterLG,
@PeterLG@theblower.au avatar

@andymoose

Dammit! There was a series on a streaming platform that started with this premise. A doctor who could empathise to the point of feeling exactly what the patient was. He got addicted and set up his own clinic, accepting all comers, and eventually started withholding drugs somthat he could experience their pain and even death.

That was only the first episode. The rest were utterly different, no connection, until the last. Genius stuff and thoroughly disturbing.

The dammit is because I want to watch it again now but can't for the life of me remember what it was called or what platform it was on.

A neat idea to combat space junk. Satellites made of wood:

PeterLG,

@llewelly

The big issue with satellites when they reenter and burn up is the metals that get vapourised and spread into the higher atmosphere, like aluminium, tungsten, copper, gold, etc, etc. Wood smoke is nowhere near as bad.

man i love the contrast between the three social media sites i use. same post:

  1. mastodon. gangbusters. 350 boosts and climbing

  2. cohost. its alright. over 10 shares. not bad for a smaller social media site, really

  3. bluesky. 4 reposts, 10 likes

and this is always how it shakes out. i cant believe that anyone is seriously maining bluesky when it consistently gets an order of magnitude less engagement than i used to get on twitter (before the collapse) and two orders of magnitude less than fedi

i guess i should just stop bothering with bluesky since compared to fedi it is a literal rounding error

Oh. I'd forgotten about my BlueSky account. Zero engagement so I just stopped using it.

I’m so bored with people who demand that Biden just “do stuff” without any interest in understanding how government works. The President is not a king.

@TonyStark

Yeah, that attitude sucks balls. People thinking that way are either anarchists or would-be fascists (if they were only given the chance).

    There is some sad news for space fans today.

    The little rotorcraft that could, Ingenuity, has completed its last flight after an emergency landing caused damage to its rotors. 😥

    Having far exceeded expectations—5 flights over 30 days turned into 72 flights over 3 years—it will now go down in history, albeit only the history remembered by space fans.

    "Over an extended mission that lasted for almost 1,000 Martian days, more than 33 times longer than originally planned, Ingenuity was upgraded with the ability to autonomously choose landing sites in treacherous terrain, dealt with a dead sensor, cleaned itself after dust storms, operated from 48 different airfields, performed three emergency landings, and survived a frigid Martian winter."

    @jwcph I agree, to a point. 𝘐𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘺 was engineered as a "I wonder if we can" project—and demonstrated that we most certainly can—but man, was it expensive! 😄

    @jwcph you know, you've got me wondering now. Just how much did 𝘐𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘺 cost, not including any NASA (certification, transport, etc) costs...

    Biden was a write-in in New Hampshire, and Trump did worse than expected.

    Biden hasn't exactly been "keeping the status quo"; take a look at what he has accomplished, even without both House and Senate behind him. The list is long.

    Is he perfect? No bloody way. Would a true progressive win, given the overall sentiment in the USA regarding progressives? Also no bloody way.

    2023 Mountain Storm After Action Report / San Bernardino County (covering the epic blizzard that hit Crestline/etc. last year)

    269 people rescued
    13 dead (however: Sheriff's Department claiming all but one of those are "natural" deaths, not due to people not having power or heat). 🤨

    @LindaCollins11

    I have a strong suspicion that military leaders will be giving serious consideration to exactly what "legal order" means.

    I wonder whether a future Trump presidency could trigger the USA's first ever military coup? 🤔

    PeterLG,
