Early Canadian Boomer. I don't say much, but I read a lot. LONG time at Twitter, which is now a past memory.

From a musical family: some are Country, some are Rock. I am Rock.

Toronto Maple Leafs fan since birth.
Calgary Stampeders fan since 1969.
Toronto Blue Jays fan since 1977.

I'm not convinced that we are going to avoid Apocalypse. I'll do my small part to try to make the world a better place for my grandchildren. #rockmusic #climate #environment #economy #society #funstuff #sports

@evan I guess we're a bit different around these parts. Friday night is fish & chips (whether you're Catholic or not). Saturday night is pizza and hockey.

@jeffowski Our entire front yard is a Bee & Butterfly Garden. The city beaurocrats threatened to cut it down. They backed off when it was pointed out that the Council had made a proclamation declaring the city to be a Bee Haven.

    RandallHawes,
    @RandallHawes@mstdn.ca avatar

    @RickiTarr I've been reading most answers to your questions and I'm realizing how boring I am. Two pieces of all-grain toast, buttered, mug of Irish Breakfast Tea, small glass of orange juice, followed by coffee. Every day. ☺️ Oh well. As long as it makes me happy, then, no worries.

    I think I have enough. Do you?

    Sure, I'd like a bigger boat, a newer car or a million dollars, but I don't NEED anything (yet). I have food, housing, and reasonable health.
    Those are my basic needs.
    A new car would be a luxury item.

    "The Laptop That Wouldn't Die"

    In a few of my blog posts on right-to-repair culture, I've mentioned my 12-year-old Thinkpad T420

    It is: indestructible

    My six-year-old Macbook Pro just died, so I'm using the thinkpad while I await a replacement

    This Thinkpad has outlived two of my top of the line Macbooks

    It was built when my eldest son was six ... he's now in college

    And it's still going

    My ode to it: https://clivethompson.medium.com/the-laptop-that-wont-die-0c478c3fe46c

    I admit to having an unconscious bias on the road. When I see a pick-up truck I immediately think, "Oh no, they're about to do something insanely stupid!" This is an unfair stereotype, as it's not always the pick-up drivers. Sometimes it's car drivers too, but they catch you by surprise because you don't immediately notice the Audi decals.

    RandallHawes,
    @RandallHawes@mstdn.ca avatar

    @ned In my observations over millions of kilometres on the highways & byways, BMW drivers are the worst, closely followed by Audi drivers. It's a thing.

    In their book “The Dawn of Everything,” David Graeber and David Wengrow provide multiple accounts by early European settler colonists of the indigenous societies they encountered in the woodlands of northeastern North America.

    Over and over, these Europeans noted that these societies were well and truly stateless, lacking rulers, laws, courts, police, prisons, or anything like what they were used to in Europe.

    They quote one Jesuit, writing in 1644 about the Wendat:

    “I do not believe that there is any people on earth freer than they, and less able to allow the subjection of their wills to any power whatever – so much so that Fathers here have no control over their children, or Captains over their subjects, or the Laws of the country over any of them, except in so far as each is pleased to submit to them. There is no punishment which is inflicted on the guilty, and no criminal who is not sure that his life and property are in no danger…”

    @zazzoo All this noise about the polls leading to an immediate election is just that. Noise. The NDP aren't going to trigger an election right now. Not a chance. Everything can happen within 2 years. And probably will.
