The only peaceful way to prevent Trump from becoming President will be to beat him resoundingly at the ballot box. Peaceful but still an intense, effortful undertaking. I don’t know whether we will succeed, but I will do all I can to help.

@heidilifeldman Vote early if you can. Then volunteer to drive people to the polls on Election Day. If you have the time, serve as a Poll Worker. If you’re interested in that, contact your Elections Office right away to sign up for training.

Trump DC J6 case will happen this spring.

And it will result in a conviction this spring.

This immunity question has caused a delay, but it will be a delay of weeks, not months.

Friends, who is the best source of guidance for COVID? My husband has tested positive -- I and our teenager have tested negative. All of us are boosted to the max. He's isolating in one room and we're wearing N95 masks when we deliver meals to him. What is the guidance now? Does he isolate until a negative test? Until the stuffy nose abates?

Last week, when I bought a parsley plant at the garden center, I didn’t notice it had a swallowtail butterfly larva. She’s now a beautiful caterpillar and I’ve bought another parsley plant for her to eat! 🪴🐛

The urban-rural death divide is getting alarmingly wider for working-age Americans

The cause is unclear, but poverty and worsening health care access are likely factors.

@arstechnica In the second time period (2017-2019), Roe has not yet been overturned. It’s going to be worse now.

“Breaking causes down by gender, rural working-age women saw a 313-percent increase in mortality from pregnancy-related conditions between the study's two time periods, the largest increase of the mortality causes.”

In keeping with late-summer tradition, a so-called “friend” abandoned a large squash on my doorstep. She called it a zucchini, but the skin is thicker and a bit warty. I think I’ll cut it into chunks, toss with olive oil and s/p and roast it. And probably some fresh herbs. Any other ideas?

A friend in New Jersey gave me some of his purple hyacinth seeds. They’ve sprouted nicely and I’m wondering where to plant them. I’d like to plant them in a pot and send them up the pergola. Here in the East Bay Area, how does the vine look over the winter? Our patio has a mild microclimate and rarely freezes. Sunset zone 15.

@viq @novid @covid19 The long-term impact of COVID is just so terribly sad. And I feel despondent with the widespread cognitive dissonance. So many people have fooled themselves into thinking we’re back to normal. Nothing is normal anymore.
