    It's extremely funny to see US senators parroting the conspiracy that the Chinese version of TikTok only promotes positive & educational content whereas the US version is addictive and harmful.

    The conspiracy comes from the fact that the Chinese version of TikTok has a mandatory "kids mode" enforced for anyone under 14, which imposes time limits and content restrictions, as a result of strong regulatory pressure from the Chinese government.

    Like twice a year US congress makes the TikTok CEO fly in from Singapore so they can yell at him and ask why the Chinese version of TikTok (Which he has nothing to do with) is regulated, whereas the US version is not, as if congress isn't entirely responsible for making said regulations, but were instead too busy eating lead paint and being xenophobic.

    It’s OK to call it Artificial Intelligence: I wrote about how people really love objecting to the term "AI" to describe LLMs and suchlike because those things aren't actually "intelligent" - but the term AI has been used to describe exactly this kind of research since 1955, and arguing otherwise at this point isn't a helpful contribution to the discussion.

    The Harvard alumns making the loudest noise about "Fair admissions" and not "lowering the standards..." are legacy admission babies. 🙂🙃

    Wake me up when they start campaigning against legacy admissions.

    For people outside the US: legacy admissions is where Harvard says "You might not meet our academic standards, but your parent or ancestor did, and that's good enough for us! Welcome to Harvard! Continue your legacy!" 🤡

    @futurebird 100k is in most places in the US enough for a family of 4 to live a middle - upper middle class lifestyle for 1 year.
    1,000k is enough for 1 person to retire on around 65 years of age similarly. 3,000k enough for the family of 4 to live off and their children to retire on after. 10,000k enough for that same family to never work, nor their grandchildren^x either. 100,000k enough to warp law and society. 1,000,000k enough to bully national politics and bend reality towards ones will.

    I think that the worst and most dangerous misconception have about is that it's this sort of turbocharged "Beast Mode" that can go into to increase their production, win wars, and make the trains run on time, and that the primary objections to it centre on whether the "obvious" increase in efficiency that fascism offers is worth the loss of and lives. But in reality regimes like to put up a façade of strength and efficiency, even as they practice on a scale unimaginable in and even as the public interest is hollowed out by parasitical . There is no trade-off; fascism is a all the way down.

    Seruko,
    @Seruko@mstdn.social avatar

    @nando161 the trainsstop running on time because of fascism, but they're reported to do so 100% because reality doesn't matter. Production goes down, etc

    While there are weaknesses in US election infrastructure, there is simply no evidence whatsoever that the 2020 presidential election was "stolen" or that technical attacks in any way altered its outcome.
