@GottaLaff I think Trump has gotten himself into a mess his ego could never have anticipated. In my experience he was regarded as a buffoon - nobody believed his bluffs and he could only get women who need something from him and he got to pull all of the rich white guy tax schemes w/o worry. I don't think he'd be in the current trial, or that this IRS audit would have been completed if he hadn't become President. He could have played the big guy with no consequences if he hadn't over-reached.

I watched SCTV when it was fairly new, and I watched Freaks and Geeks much, much later, as a pandemic watch-a-thon, and in all this time, I never put together that the dad on Freaks and Geeks was from SCTV. Now I see it, I just never recognized him from his earlier work while on that show....

So, I started reading Disproven, by Ken Block, who was hired by the Trump campaign to look into data driven claims of voter fraud in 2020. The book was released yesterday. On p. 10 he says "States that do not provide full dates of birth in their voter files should be sued in advance of the election in order to secure the data necessary to properly evaluate results."

The book so far is pretty reasonably argued, but this seems like a weird coincidence.

I'm very good at my present job because I'm 60 years old. During 60 years, I've been in many different situations and environments. I've lived with a lot of stressors, navigated a lot of challenges, met a lot of people, had a lot of conversations and learned a lot. I'm not distracted, I'm not afraid. These are just some of the benefits of age.

True story - I have no interest/capacity/knowledge to create a specific feed, so I just keep all my various follows together, and when I come on Masto I scroll for a bit live to get a sample, and then I search and go to your feed. I do that multiple times a day - you are my news curator. I hope you can keep in your heart that for every poopyhead who takes your feed in crappy directions, there are a bunch of us who come here for your specific world view.

GOP withdraws plan to declare Trump presumptive presidential nominee. Word is that Trump and team initially signed on, but after backlash changed mind and Trump asked them not to proceed in the name of "party unity". The real story is likely somewhat different than the reported one, but who knows?

I have not read through all the responses but a random sampling seems to reference some fiction that addresses this. If no one else has said it, I think the series The Good Place captures the pros and cons of living forever really beautifully. And my answer is...probably not.

Imma let you finish, but - please don't forget about the highly engaged just plain citizens, who genuinely appreciate your perspective. The loud, panicky people get your attention, but there are plenty of quiet people like me who turn to your social media to get sane answers, objective answers, answers that don't always fit our narrative - it's hard to express that in a way that lets you know, seriously, you are heard and the perspective is valuable, helpful, and yes, calming.

This is my biggest problem with this whole issue - Clarence Thomas was bitching about not being able to live on a six figure government salary, with apparently no thought that plenty of people live on far less than that, while his rulings generally support the wealthy class. I spent years dismissing Christina Aguilaera, and by association, Pink, because while I liked the version of Lady Marmalade that was produced for Moulin Rouge, I put everyone in that pop genre without realizing their individual talents. Today, I better appreciate Aguilara's talents, but around 10 years ago, I finally saw that I had completely mis-labeled Pink in my mind, and I'm now a huge, huge fan of hers.
