today's helldivers 2 discovery: it has an unlockable revolver. makes sense, right? lots of games do.

you fire six out of six shots and reload. your character uses a speedloader. makes sense!

you fire two shots and reload.

  • if you're in a fight, your character uses a speedloader, and you lose four
  • if you're not, they reload it round by round, and you lose none

this is an incredible level of attention to detail holy shit. nobody does this!!

If you read my weekend blog post, you know that I've been pointing out that the predicate crime in the Trump trial is not clear.

(For what I mean, see my weekend blog post).

Here is what the Washington Post reported.

See screenshots #1 and #2.

Here is the law: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/ELN/17-152?utm_medium=email&wpisrc=nl-nationalpopup&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=wp_the_trump_trials

To be clear: I have no idea how this trial will turn out. I cannot substitute my judgment for the jury because I am not seeing what they are seeing.

alloydflanagan,
@alloydflanagan@me.dm avatar

@futurebird @Teri_Kanefield Yeah it might be a lot easier for a jury to understand and relate to their own experience. “Inciting an insurrection” is big and scary; business fraud they’ve seen before.

"Crazy Legs" lives in Australia. he raises various bull ants, as I assume anyone lucky enough to live in Australia would. This is a video about moving his Myrmecia nigrocincta colony to a fantastic new nest of their own design.

It shows how the ants react to getting help from a giant (imagine a bunch of babies being dumped into your front door.) And the ways ants help each other when confused (happens often as they are just little ants.)

Captioned, with ambient sound.

I prefer using adblockers not because I dislike ads, but because they help me protect against potential abuse. You see, most of the malicious and abusive experiences I come across on the Internet are actually through ads.

They often try to steal my bandwidth, take up valuable screen space, or even take control of my browser. Some ads have even tried to install software without my consent, which is downright alarming. Honestly, browsing the Internet can sometimes feel like a battle against the ad industry's hostility. So until the ad industry starts behaving better, which unfortunately doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon, I'll continue relying on adblockers to ensure a safer browsing experience.

alloydflanagan,
@alloydflanagan@me.dm avatar

@atomicpoet Publishers don’t want to hear this. They’ve been sold ads as “just drop this bit of script in your page and make money”, and have no idea what those scripts can do. It’s just like 5 lines, right?

I dunno if 1:30 PM EST on a Saturday morning is the right time to reach someone who cares about this, but: I really have problems with the Rust LSP. I use it with Sublime and on all platforms I use it on it seems to create huge problems with absurd memory use that compounds more and more with the number of windows you have open. The indexing when it opens a new project is very slow, it seems to take much longer to come to the conclusion "oh, this doesn't compile" than actual rustc

    • Did you try IRC and it wasn't better at all?
    • Do you need to use an IRC channel but IRC is a pain?
    • Use irccloud.com
    • It's free, it has a website interface that's like Discord, it has a phone app, it even lets you paste images into IRC
    • Downside: If you connect only from phone, they DC you after a bit unless you're on the paid plan. Get around this by leaving a web tab open on a desktop

    The NY Times seems to think that the way Republicans have been running the House of Representatives is normal. It’s not normal.

    Republicans invented the “Hastert Rule,” preventing the House from passing bills that have the support of a bipartisan majority. It’s an insult to the Constitution. It puts the crazy far right in control.

    All they have to do is return to a semblance of regular order, and they could get Democratic support for a moderate Speaker.
