Last night I was feeling down, but I knew it would be temporary.
This morning I woke up remembering how, many years ago, I was bullied, penalized, and mocked because I didn't want to use the "mainstream" systems (Windows - I'll write more about this some future posts).
"Because everyone does it" has never worked for me and will continue not to. I always believe that every problem needs its own solution; there is no "one size fits all" magic. I never exclude anything, and I avoid fanaticism, but I will continue on my path, as I always have.

One of my characteristics, since I was a child, has always been this. I listen to everyone, respect everyone, but I make my own decisions and take the responsibility.

Like the great Mama Cass said, "Make your own kind of music" is my motto.

Sometimes, when I talk to frontend developers about how requires you to have more presentation awareness in the projection side of your server application as you generate content in HTML, which in the world is pretty much what we did with , Freemarker and Thymeleaf, I'm met with amazement.

No dis, but be aware: There's a generation of capable professional frontend developers who don't know backend servers can serve HTML just fine, and not just Json over HTTP.

Watching The Doors live at The Hollywood Bowl (1968)¹ and hacking on Kitten² and Domain³.

All in all, not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon in my book.

(I’ve almost got database backup/restore working in Kitten and I’ve just finished porting Domain to the latest Kitten with JSDB 5⁴.)

I have an opening for an OT security person in the Cologne/Düsseldorf region of Germany.

You must be a FOSS aficionado who is willing to work on pushing a windows-based environment towards something from this millenium. Challenges are internal friction on the dev side and lack of knowledge of non-IT people.

You must be enthusiastic about industrial environments and heavy machinery.

I love our solitary bees. In the late morning hours when it’s still cold they sit at the opening of their tubes, looking out, warming up, trying to find the inner strength to get up and start doing things and I can relate so much.

That's exactly why I am a big fan of open source right from beginning. It allows others to discover your ideas, thoughts and beginnings. They can share their thoughts and ideas or findings.

Sometimes someone knows something so you don't need to build the stuff on your own. And others might join your efforts to build something cool.

I never did something private first until it is "ready". But I gave up in that topic...

Today I first tried Hyprland ... A very interesting window manager which feels a little bit crazy but works very well and can be enough customized

Using it together with mako (notifications), wofi (app launcher) and waybar (bar).

Any recommendations from anyone regarding tools that work great with Wayland?

My boyfriend is currently learning web development (HTML and CSS right now). That motivated me to play around with languages.

@array introduced me to exercism.org/ which allows me to practice languages on my local machine. Thanks for that.

I'm publishing my progress at git.daniel-siepmann.de/daniels… where you can see why is awesome. I've created a derivation for the exercism binary and one shell.nix per language.

That way I can play around with other language on my own system declarative. I guess this is a nice showcase for nix.

What's great about ? It has your back! Imagine your bread and butter notebook dies on you and the only thing that you can get a hold of here and now in that emergency situation is that 10 year old computer. Installation of a current(!) distro just works and after restoring the backup you're ready to go again. Not as fast as you're used too, but also not as bad as you think. And it keeps you afloat unitl a replacement arrives. Try that with some mac/win.

$TopBoss is required to answer some stupid consulting outfit what we're doing with "AI", so we all had to name use cases (which we don't have). $Colleague pasted the question into chatgpt and sent back the answer.
