The National: Glasgow airport has been told to act after a sign for a restaurant appeared to mix up Irish and Scottish Gaelic… The slogan on the sign currently reads “An bhfuil ocras ort?” with [Murdo] MacSween explaining it should instead say “A bheil an t-acras ort?”

If it "would not be appropriate" for to take part in while an investigation by the Swedish police is taking place, why exactly is it just fine for a certain other country to take part while an investigation by the ICC is taking place?

I'm not saying that threatening production crew members is fine; it's just really not on the same level as War Crimes and Genocide though, is it, ?

If you don't know what Edinburgh castle had in mind, why would you feel the need to jump in to say "those people who committed heinous war crimes against your ancestors were good actually"? How did you think that could be anything other than offensive?

Dear -ians,

Please just use . I can't tell if you're whining because it's 6° and you think that's cold, or if you mean 6°F, which is genuinely cold, but I can't really tell how cold more specifically than 'probably quite cold'. At the very least, please put an F there, so the rest of us know what scale is being used. You don't own the internet and nobody else considers Fahrenheit to be the default setting.

@RickiTarr Not certain how I'm more male than people who actually identify as such... it must be my interest in swords but not cosmetics?

Did I lose woke points for not being able to say I've been attracted to people of the same gender as me or non-binary people (which is the same question twice, in my case), despite being ace and not attracted to people of other genders either? As if any attraction is a choice for anyone?

@RickiTarr I suppose if this test has a serious right wing bias they might be counting it towards the normal/abnormal scale? Still, seems more likely to be "wokeness", as it's hard to see how it could relate to gender or politics. Not that it logically relates to anything else either, not being a choice. This test was weird and I definitely got some American right-wing vibes from some of the questions.

@fkamiah17 @Wen Didn't they use "we can't have different laws in England and Gretna Green" as an excuse for blocking GRR? If they're not aware that the differing laws and legal systems that have always existed between Scotland and England are the reason Gretna Green is famous to begin with, I doubt they're aware that we also have a separate education system.

Or they simply don't wish to remember either of these things because it doesn't suit their narrative. It's hard to tell anymore.

Sometimes I don't know why I, an person, even bother trying to engage with other people. I'm not even certain it's correct regarding white people in the US (but US history isn't something I've ever particularly studied). Weren't their earliest European settlers religious fanatics who moved there specifically to be self-governing?

So in this case, "Human history" would appear to mean white-people-in-the-US-after-c.1750

On July 15, 1944, in Bristol UK, the "Park Street Riot,” saw 400 Black soldiers confront 120 U.S. Military Police (MPs) over pub access. Observers later recounted that locals rooted for the Black troops. Like the Battle of Bamber Bridge a year earlier, this event underscored the racism Black troops faced as well as the disconnect between how they were treated overseas vs in their own country.

Just as a side note though: in the context of Binfire Island, MPs = Members of Parliament, and it took me until post 21 to realise that it wasn't 400 African American soldiers fighting 120 out-of-shape posh blokes (although that was certainly an interesting and confusing image)!

That being said, if you'd like to send some African American soldiers to fight some MPs (our meaning), we'd be quite grateful if you could rid us of the Tories...

Here's a comparison I haven't seen elsewhere. Maybe helpful for people in other countries, illustratung the challenges of distance in Canada's far north.

Evacuees from need to drive 14.5 hrs to get to Edmonton. This is like evacuees leaving Manhattan, at the Lincoln Tunnel and driving to an reception centre in Jacksonville, Florida.

And the route in Canada's north is flat out highway driving – not urban streets and stop lights.

It was by Cassandra Clare and involved something confusing about angels and demons but it was about a decade ago, so mostly what I remember is that I definitely got the impression the author was getting off on the possibility of incest and that I stopped reading in disgust.

I really, really hope there isn't more than one series like that!
