In case you’re wondering why the Turkish people “reelected” Erdoğan it’s for the same reason Americans would be “reelecting” President DeSantis after 20 years of rule.

(And in case you’re thinking “term limits”, realise that Turkey has term limits too. He was prime minister first, then president, and then he changed the constitution to make it into a presidential system which he argued reset the clock on the presidential term limit…)

@seachanger been here since last july. It was a calmer, more silent experience. Almost an embodiment of the SilentSunday hashtag. Then the migration began and we all had to develop new political discourse, there was as much fear as there waa hype for what would become of the culture that existed here.

@seachanger oh i am on servers that do that. It just has to be a new server or a themed server. I am very happy with the migration tbh, i just hope we work on intersectionality now and work on making this a better place for BIPOC

If John Mastodon removes server choice from the onboarding process in the official app, he's only kicking the can of user confusion down the road. What happens when Alice asks Bob "what's your Mastodon address", and Bob replies "@Bob_is_here" and Alice asks "OK, but on which server"? Bob may have no idea a choice of servers exists, because he never consciously chose one. How might he feel when he realizes he had a choice, but the simplified onboading took it away from him?

@strypey the is a radically different culture that should not have its intricacies be hidden from the public. People need to learn its fundmanetal nature, this happens with all new social cultures on the internet. Hiding its core nature only centralizes and undermines the fediverse.
