So in the past I did a limited amount of work with platinum-cure silicone to make things like little gaskets and bumpers or shock absorbers.

One minor issue was bubbles/voids in the silicone.

Could I use a hobby syringe to pull a partial vacuum in something like a glass jar (without it imploding)? It would be cool to have a way to generate even a partial vacuum without needing a whole pump. Might be able to use a tool from an auto parts store to pull the vacuum too.

gimulnautti,

@DeltaWye You’d probably want a pump with some kind of valve that shuts. 🤔

When I write: ”Palestine shall be free, from the river to the sea”, am I an antisemite?

My view is I am not. Actually I don’t even even have a quarrel with with Israel existing.

The UN resolution that founded Israel didn’t say the Palestinians should leave. Israel made that decision all by themselves.

Having made that choice, one is fully responsible for the consequences. Including millions of people singing to have their homes back, and the sympathy for them.

Could 2024 be ’s ”Big Tobacco” moment? 🤔

Legislation from the 1990 to further the tech industry’s reach & development, with COPPA passed back then seems like it was passed for another world. And for kids today it really is.

One may think this is just another moral panic, but this time it really is different. Research results show social media & phone addiction really is a significant factor in degrading

Confirmed: Russia is using chemical weapons in Ukraine.

The chemical used is Chloropicrin, known as one of the poison gasses of World War I.

This is consistent with video evidence I have encountered, where white plastic containers are dropped into Ukrainian fortifications, and Ukrainians are seen rushing outside to put on gas masks.

A Telegram post alleged to be from a Russian assault group says: "Pigs start their mornings not with coffee, but with chloropicrin."

@aerofreak @randahl @DeeGLloyd The trick is to drop them sparsely enough, keep below the radar.

Teargas has been ramping up slowly. They’ll probably ramp this up slowly as well.

The west seems committed in not getting involved. As long as it’s like that, Russia will keep pushing the envelope.

There’s an old saying about Russia in Europe:

The bear tests the ground with it’s bayonette; If it’s soft it will push in, if it’s hard it will retreat.

BREAKING: The House just passed HR 6090, which expands the definition of antisemitism to include criticism of Israel.

Let me be clear. People have rights. State governments do not have rights. This terrible bill sets a dangerous precedent & does nothing to actually decrease or stop the scourge of antisemitism. The Senate should not pass this bill and Biden should not sign it into law.

gimulnautti, (edited )
@gimulnautti@mastodon.green avatar

@philip @QasimRashid It’s cutting it close. Whether the state of Israel’s stated goals of remaining a jewish state is racist should still be up for debate, because it is a debate that can be learned from. It’s useful because ethnicity was a thing on the ground through 1920 to 1990, even if technically one can convert to Judaism nowadays.

The conflict is based on deep ethnically-based divisions and violence in the past, and it isn’t a worthless argument.

The current atmosphere is making it frighteningly easy for fascist actors to groom lonely people who are rightly horrified by what is happening in Gaza (and what is happening in the USA to suppress dissent) into antisemitism. We need to be there to try to pull our friends down off the ceiling, especially if they go from posting for justice and peace to conspiracies about Jewish people. Netanyahu is not Israel, and he is not the Jewish people. He is a criminal trying to save his own ass.

”the old will die and the young will forget” (about Palestine)

David Ben-Gurion, first prime minister of Israel, 1948

Well that didn’t happen. Too many of the old have died. Too many of the young have died. But forgetting, that is the opposite of what’s going on. I would even say the young are starting to remember by the numbers!

"If you want to say there is antisemitic speech that is a characteristic, repeated element in the protests, quote it... You have to use specific quantities not weasel words like 'many'—since...there are 'many' people who feel equally targeted by discrimination and threat aimed at Palestinians."

The charge seems to mostly be based on that venerable protest slogan, 'from the river to the sea, Palestine shall be free.'

Siviilien ja siviili-infrastruktuurin tuhoaminen rangaistukseksi on ollut Israelin armeijan virallinen, valtion kirjoihin kirjattu linja jo vuodesta 2006.

On se jännä miten toisia syytetään sotarikoksista, ja toiset saa tehdä samoja asioita valtion taholta ilman että kukaan nostaa edes sormea.

There’s something fundamentally off-putting about humans chasing rewards in a system controlled by an algorithm that’s not public domain.

I just don’t feel it’s 1) safe 2) humane 3) smart 4) productive 5) contributing to societies

I wouldn’t mind if it was under public scrutiny and the smartest minds in the universities were working on it, with feedback from the society.

Let’s summarize:

  1. Elon Musk platformed and promoted Tucker Carlson.

  2. Tucker Carlson then platformed Putin, and now he is handing the microphone to one of the most evil Russian thinkers in existence, Aleksandr Dugin, and getting 5.4 million views by normalizing the imperialist.

  3. Marjorie Taylor Greene then chimes in, calling Tucker “the best journalist America has”.

Tell everyone you know to stop supporting the disinformation platform — friends don’t let friends consume the Musk sauce.

@JoshuaHolland One thing I don’t get about the safety rhetoric though.

How does one reason one should feel safe about inhabiting a land where the original inhabitants were chased out between 1936 and 1967?

It’s the time. It’s such a recent event. And it was 700000 people. Droves still alive.

How does one condemn them for reminescing about their lost homes, claiming ”threat” because they sing songs about what they lost and want back?

This I don’t understand.

@mikemathia By statistics this is actually a very poor life lesson. The probability of the ocean killing you far exceeds the the probability of the island doing so before you attract the attention of a passing ship.

It’s also a deeply conservative life lesson. It presupposes a dog-eat-dog world where trust in the kindness of strangers is a mistake.

”Nobody is coming” is something I’d never teach my kid. It’s something people like Andrew Tate say.

Not mentioning satellites either.
