Why am I both people in this conversation?!

humanhorseshoes,

@RickiTarr but the squirrel would have to survive the vacuum of space and re entry to the atmosphere and at 4800 miles up wouldn’t it be too small to be affected by gravity?

humanhorseshoes,
@humanhorseshoes@mastodon.world avatar

@RickiTarr @CWilbur @humanhorseshoes depends on its location. It would need to tuck its tail around its body which would slow it down but prevent ring burn on reentry.

@muddyfields @humanhorseshoes @RickiTarr we need flame retardant squirrels

I'm in a student union bar having a coffee. Nik Kershaw is on, following Level 42 and A-ha. My youth is so distant it's becoming a quasi-fictional world for young people to imagine.
No one here has stone washed jeans or shoulder pads. Yet.

French spelling is not entirely logical, but I find that once the common patterns and exceptions are internalized, I can guess the pronunciation of the written word with about 90% accuracy.

As an English native speaker I cannot tell you how to say the surname "Laughlin".

humanhorseshoes,
@humanhorseshoes@mastodon.world avatar

@danjac because it’s an Irish name and 900 years later you still can’t say their names

humanhorseshoes,

@danjac it's not easy thats for sure

@danjac you do know Irish words though, Whiskey derived from water, Boycott, spree -party, bog - soft other words like clock, slew, galore, smithereens, etc

humanhorseshoes,

@danjac Yes Irish is a synthetic Verb Subject Object language which is what we were not taught at school. Learning Russian improved my Irish because it is synthetic too. In Finnish all I can do is swear or say thanks

I’ve been re-reading all my history books about the Nazis. One thing that strikes me is how hard it was to fight back against Nazism from inside. The normative culture is so strong and everybody is just going along. Ordinary folks, with denouncing their neighbours to the Gestapo. The Gestapo was tiny only 32k. It was the ordinary people that were informing on their neighbours. Ordinary people enabled Nazism.

humanhorseshoes,

@kcarruthers We watched Nazi Russia form right in front of our eyes and did nothing

@ronanmcd @humanhorseshoes I’m a few years older and I got the fifth Pfizer at Christmas and they all hurt and messed me up. Had three Sputnik before that and same. Still managed to have Covid twice and the second time it was rough but nowhere near as rough as unvaccinated Covid was. Emmett Geul, 19, a student and a member of the army national guard in Ohio, was excited about Truss’s appearance. “I feel like London and England as a whole needs to be on a more conservative track,” he said. “I know there’s a housing crisis going on; the cost of living is rising. But I just feel if we have strong conservative voices all over the world, things oftentimes are more mellow. We’re not getting involved in wars.”

Odd take on UK geography and politics, given we have Tory PM.
