Just saw my wife across a pedestrian set of lights in Dublin. Conveniently at the same time a motorbiker with a huge Trump flag went through the lights, so I was able to call across to her and shout "look at the wanker" asking with the requisite hand gesture to make sure he noticed

My mom was the head of a math department at a community college and I have fond childhood memories of the crazy mail she got. I think all math departments get this kind of mail. Basically people who think they've proven the Riemann hypothesis and such. She'd have me look for math errors in them because they always had SO MANY errors.

So, the idea of writing about biology scares me because I don't want to be "one of those guys" for some poor biology department head.

I can't understand how a country like USA exists, and how others see it as a blueprint for success. Being sick can bankrupt you, being a wealthy criminal can buy you client judges, rules are written to suit the wealthy, guns are said to protect you from guns, religiosity is used to tell others how they should live their lives, segregation was only a lifetime ago, fiction is truth, accountability for the poor.
It's individualism & greed personified and made into virtue. It's a terrible philosophy

Today’s listening is ‘(Music From The Motion Picture) Magnolia’, which was released in 1999.

The vast majority of this album are songs by Aimee Mann.

For a long time this was the only place to find several excellent songs by Aimee (such ‘Wise Up’), which did not appear on any of her own studio albums up to that point.

I did watch the movie ‘Magnolia’ once and I remember thinking that it was terrible! Maybe I should watch it again?

@andrew @Doctor_J_ I know the word for pain in Chinese now. They are in my mouth 11 years and no complaints. My original root canal work was done in Northern Ireland and my latest fillings were done in Russia in 2021. I fell asleep when they were doing it in Russia @janestegerlewis cannot believe anyone can sleep at the dentists
